Re: ACF Regionals Discussion Thread

Not having the questions to look at, I can't really do more than repeat my impressions from the tournament itself. As I recall, the Dewey tossup began with a vague first sentence (about "being opposed to metaphysics as reification") which could have described James, or Dewey, or Rorty, or a number ...

Re: Junior Wildcat at Northwestern 2/21

Props to Andy and Northwestern, this tournament was sweet. I had uber-low expectations given my limited middle school quizbowl experience, and I was blown away by the level of competition and quality of questions. Despite some difficult questions, there were several rounds in which the teams I moder...

So WWS and New Trier are playing in the first round. It seems like both teams deserve a little bit nicer of a first match then that that bracket is very similar to last years. I believe we played NT in the second round after they had to beat WN and we played Carbondale for the final. Seems like he'...

In the meantime people can post here if they want to register (dis)approval of one or more dates, with the understanding that any consensus we achieve on this board is going to be ignored if there's a problem getting rooms for the most popular dates. Lollapalooza is August 7-9. That might factor in.

Great tournament, I especially liked the packets by USC, Illinois, and VCU.

The Kickoff vendor is an important issue, but part of a bigger goal that you may want to elucidate on Sunday. Hmm, that's good enough for me. I only played sports at a middle school that didn't have a quizbowl program, so that's probably what's driving me with this. But if there are other circuits like Georgia, then I suppose there could be a national crowning of sorts like there is in high school.

Bad tournaments aren't going to go away, ever. The key is to not attend them. I had the aforementioned mindset of "bad quizbowl is better than no quizbowl" last year, and I learned my lesson.
