Re: VCU Season Finale Tournament II: 05/03/08 (Richmond, VA)

Congrats to Dorman! Wish I could have been there, but alas, I had to take the SAT. It's good to see that my good pal Harry White made for a worthy substitute.

Re: National Tournament Prognostication

So tomorrow at VCU, I'm not there. Keshav wasn't there at NAQT states. Yeah.

Re: Is Virginia NAQT States still on??

Gov was absolutely impressive today. Congratulations to them on a well-earned win!
Now, on the other hand, we have our good man Keshav Pillai who was off in sunny Nashville learning the ways of college. So we were not at full-strength, no...

Re: DACQ Weekend of Quizbowl Goodness: BYO Dagger (3/15/08) @GMU

On the same vein as that comment, I find that my personal stats are also botched (and probably for the rest of TJ, too). I definitely remember getting more than 0 points in the game against Dorman A yesterday. In fact, I remember getting something like 8 questions in the game against Dorman A (espec...

Re: Pirates v. Ninjas I : DACQ Weekend of Quizbowl Open Doubles

The name's Tallapragada, not Tallepragada. You spell it just like you say it.

I'm trying to avoid doing homework (by perusing the hsqb forums, of course), so what better way to do that than to complain about an all-too-common misspelling of your surname?

Re: RESULTS: VCU Last-Minute Tournament 2/23/08 @ Collegiate

Ah yee, I am proud to announce I had 5 of those negs. Representin' those negative fives right here... I concur that this tournament was awesome - true, I am shamelessly biased in favor of NAQT questions, but for such a small field put together at the last minute the tournament really turned out great.

Alrighty, so here's another for you:

Congrats Whitman! My two cents about the tournament: I definitely think it was way better than last year in the earlier rounds in that there actually were non-lit questions, and the lit was not Filipino literature or Japanese literature from the 4th century BC or whatever REALLY obscure stuff Ted Gi...

I concur wholeheartedly with Keshav that this was a well-run tournament on Ian's part and also that the final against Whitman was absolutely spectacular. Seriously, after so many games from which you almost become indifferent to this repeating canon of quizbowl questions, the game with Whitman remin...

Living a grand total of 5 miles from GMU, I will tell you that the best airport to fly into is Dulles. Then you can hitch a ride by various means (taxi, shuttle, rental car, etc.) to get to the GMU area. As much as we may like to glorify the Metro in DC, it's not a terribly convenient way to get aro...

Quick results: The question distribution at the tournament was somewhat random. I noticed that in the playoffs, all of a sudden the lit distribution in rounds went up to practically 80% of the round, plus you had the ONE sports trash question in the tournament (which Mohit got, so I won't complain, ...

QDAD is a condition characterized by the following symptoms: - extreme anxiety whenever your non-quizbowl team classmates don't know the answer to a question your teacher asks, but you know it because it's been ...

still, Evan, wouldn't you consider at least some science and geography to be a part of the "high school quizbowl canon"? In any case, the tournament itself was well-run and I'm not saying that any of the questions themselves were bad. They were good questions, just a lot of them had to do with liter...

Perhaps it would be clearer to say that the tournament was too heavily weighted towards "fine humanities", that is to say music, fine arts, and literature. There were indeed some rounds with several science questions, but other rounds had next to none. I also noticed that current events and politics...

A few questions for the tournament organizers (and I guess Dr. Chuck, too): Was Cav Classic a PACE qualifier? If so, how many teams have qualified? If not, Dr. Chuck, could you retroactively qualify the top 8 teams or something? If I recall correctly, UVA Cavalier Classic was a PACE qualifier last y...

We had one bad round in the prelims against Monticello, I think it was, where we negged a lot, then for the rest of the day we were perhaps a bit buzzer happy. I'm not quite sure what happened in the playoffs, though I know we had less of a problem with negging then. I'm not quite sure how negging c...
