I have no problem with writing "participants" because the reason for having lead-in clues is not to award guessing but rather knowledge.

It's strange you say that, George, because for that Axum tossup I actually thought "the language was Ge'ez" was a giveaway in the first line. I only looked at two random packets, but a major problem I saw was the altogether lack of giveaway clues in a couple of questions. Specifically Brueghel, Axum and Six Day War.

Oh, I guess I read "Our optimal date would be the weekend before ICT (March 28-29, 2009)" as saying that ICT was on the 28th and 29th, while this tournament would be held the week before that.

It appears that both Kyle and Douglas are forgetting that there will be two full tournaments held during the WoQ unless things have changed significantly. You can't fit six events into 2.5 days.

Unless there is much more interest in this tournament from other teams, Clemson will not be attending. This said because their is minimal interest among the Clemson club and I've heard that GT will, in fact, not be attending.

It would be a stretch to say that 95% of teams can answer a tossup on William Shakespeare, much less get a math comp question from the first clue. Also, you extremely overestimate the number of people who have even heard of Flanders.

Obviously "impossibility" is an overstatement; however, my point all along was that four line questions just don't cut it when you're trying to distinguish these teams. Sure, their would still be "buzzer races" with longer questions, but this would occur much less frequently. I'll jump on the wagon...
