Summer Practices at Chicago

We'll be hosting practices at the University of Chicago this summer. The tentative plan is to have them Thursday nights in the Regenstein library starting around 7:00 PM. All of quizbowl is welcome to attend, but we will be playing college questions almost exclusively. Message me if you are coming s...

My only real criticism is that I think there should have been a prompt for "risk" since volatility is certainly discussed as a form of "risk" though not necessarily in a strictly mathematical sense (which is not really the context in which I have heard risk and volatility discussed, for the most pa...

To add a bit of reality to this thread, I'll note that on 1/18 the set was 44% complete. It's now around 60% complete (although that number is probably too high because many questions still need editing/rewriting). Matt has written something like 15 tossups since then. My advice is to not study philosophy for quizbowl but rather to study philosophy for it's own sake. For historical purposes, I'd like to point out that those posts were a reaction to the deletion of the Dragonball Z side tournament. So if the no anime rule never existed, then the hijacking would have never happened.

Ah yes, I too enjoy mischaracterizing people's reasonable concerns. No one's arguing that you should be able to buzz on pronouns. For all intents and purposes, pronouns or designators such as "this woman" aren't clues in any meaningful sense. Marshall's arguing that answers which are not included in...

I had fun playing the set overall, but I was wondering if other people also had complaints about the trash. It seemed the trash distribution seemed skewed towards the 90s and early 2000s or towards neckbeardia, which is fine for people born in the late 80s but a bit frustrating for us youngins.
