Re: Kentucky 09-10

Since Dunbar is using HSAPQ sets, would the tournament be a good way of, kind of, surveying potential prospects for the All-Star team? It would be good for getting an idea of what the team may consist of, but the individual results may be skewed because some teams (Manual, Johnson Central) have sev...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

I'm personally against having the tryout on the 6th because I'll probably be in Louisville for an interview. Like I said in my above post, I don't think that we should have the tryouts then, I think it would be a good way to just see who has good potential. The idea for the Saturday of State seems ...

4) KAAC has moved away from Pop Culture pretty much altogether. I don't particuarly remember Governor's Cup being heavy in "Trash" anyway, but even that amount has been reduced this year. 6) This is probably the most important thing of the post: KAAC needs to separate the tossups and bonuses. There...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

I used to like quick recall a lot, in 7th grade, before I went to ACE. Know it is okay, better than no academic competition at all. Is quick recall painful and completely unfun? No Is quizbowl much more fun and reliable? Yes I think that for elementary school and maybe even middle school, quick rec...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

I have a simple question. I know that about 95% of people that read this thread believe that Quick Recall does NOT and NEVER will be superior too Quiz Bowl in terms of assessment of knowledge. And, believe me, I am one of those 95%. But who here actually likes playing it, for fun. You know, as a game.

Our B team played lost by around 30 and was 4th. They actually lost by 42. The seeding for the bracket at the end was also awful. We were seeded 7th. I'll never understand how that tournament was supposed to work. It's just where the drawing was totally random, and the morning games were also prett...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

According to some of the staff at KAAC, Quick Recall will NOT become pyramidal. Hey folks. To clear up any uncertainty, I'd like to make it clear that KAAC recognizes the value of multiple clues in descending order of difficulty. I'll avoid using the P-word, and another debate, out of deference to ...

Math is too essential to really remove from the mix of things. That is the main flaw with Quiz Bowl, there is no legit way to write a pyramidal, computational math question. So why not write a pyramidal math theory question instead? They do write Math theory questions, but that isn't enough to test...

It's good to see that many of us agree with each other. I see both sides of the point. It does however, take knowledge for both types of the questions. They've moved in the right direction, now we just need to push for a more pyramidality and lobby for them to do away with the excessive amount of math questions. That will never happen.
