Re: 2016 HSNCT discussion

Without regard to the content of any specific question, I noticed what appeared to be a shift in the grammatical phrasing of the giveaway line of tossups and certain bonus prompts. I don't think this phrasing was around even in NAQT sets from earlier this year. Almost every tossup I can remember rea...

Re: Help with HSQBRank! (incl. HS teams at college tourneys)

Based on what Fred's said above, I think the message was "I don't have the time to search every college tournament throughout the year, but if you send me the stats of a college tournament that a HS team played, I can include it" [and that's what happens when i leave a tab open for two hours] At Luk...

Re: Odds of NAQT producing more sets per year

It looks like a number of tournaments in AL on NAQT sets don't go that many rounds (Buckhorn for instance on IS-148 only has 8 rounds and Covenant Christian on IS-152 only had 7 according to the NAQT results site; IS sets contain 14 packets, so that's a whole tournament going basically unused). Re: Discuss 2016 NHBB Nationals Here

I think a reasonable system would be a 16+16 DE playoff for varsity and a 16-team 4x4 -> 4-team SE playoff for JV. Varsity plays 4 rounds Saturday night, JV plays its group stage and tiebreakers to win the group. Sunday, the first two rounds of bowl playoff are the Round of 6 and the semifinal(s) f...

This year the final stages of the playoffs was six rounds + the tiebreaker thing; 16 winners + 32 losers would take eight rounds, which is going to be an extra packet = an extra 40 minutes at the end of Saturday night, plus another pile of questions. This may have the same problem as Matt's 18-team schedule once it gets to playoffs, but with 20 teams, you can play two groups of 10 in ten submitted rounds. Take a traditional 9-round schedule, and pull one pairing from each round (featuring distinct teams) and place it in round ten instead. Then s...

2-team tiebreakers still run on full packets, right? Then the only case where a half-packet is used is for the 3-or-more-way ties. Besides the additional full packet that would be required, that would also entail adding half an hour to the schedule.
