I suspect the reason it's "unfortunate" has more to do with the horrid corruption of bouncebacks that IHSA uses rather than bouncebacks themselves being inherently bad. In Illinois a majority of events have bouncebacks but a trend is starting with more tournaments without them. Unfortunately some of the biggest events in the state (Kickoffs, IHSA series) use the bounceback format.
