Re: Maryland Fall Tournament (9/26/09)

We've had a number of additions to the field over the past few days, so it would be cool if Centennial, GDS, TJ, and Hammond could confirm how many teams they'll be bringing. Also, is the Fake Blake team confirmed in/out, or still on the fence? TJ will be bringing one team and two buzzers. Sorry to...

Going 0 for two rounds against Matt Jackson isn't fun. I don't know why you're singling me out... ...Because you specifically kept getting the questions I expected to get? Was Matt Jackson being pretty darn good at quizbowl....unexpected??? Okay, so not "expected," but "usually get against o...

Re: DC/MD/VA Date Claim 09-10

I can't speak for other teams in terms of driving preferences, but Google Maps puts TJ 1 hour 39 minutes from Gov, compared with 27 minutes from Whitman. Barring massive differences in field quality, I would prefer to send our novices to a Whitman mirror, especially because new players wouldn't be a...

If I might kibbitz..... While Andrew's point about B teams is well taken, Fred has a point. It's been my experience that when a room drags, it is 99% of the time a slow or inexperienced reader, not inexperienced teams waiting till the end of questions. I don't mean to pile on here, nor is this an endorsement of NAQT's questions, but according to http://www.naqt.com/schedule.jsp the closest NAQT tournaments to the DC area are in Princeton, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA, and Uniondale, NY. Assuming DC-area teams still want to go to HSNCT, they will probably wa...

I'd just like to point out a minor error in the number of games played by each team member on Walter Johnson (and possibly on other schools as well): Both Daichi Ueda and Kuo-Kai Chin played 14 games as it correctly states, but Andi Shahu and Ophir Lifshitz played just 4 games, and Ashu Joshi and D...

While we're on the subject of science, I'd like to bring up a tossup which I was confused by, the gravity tossup in round 8: In particle physics, the effect of this force on particles is mediated by the hypothetical Higgs Boson, and is itself carried by a hypothetical massless, chargeless particle. ...

If I may make the following modest proposal: I think it would be a good idea if you wrote out all the weekends in 09-10, with those that have no claims yet just empty. This would make it easier for people to see what dates are still open and how tournaments are arranged relative to each other. For e...

I'm trying to do something kind of like HAVOC, except perhaps half a step easier: easy questions, but still pyramidal, with answers selected from an academic canon. Consider mirroring Northwestern University's Junior Wildcat tournament. See http://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7323 for ...
