Re: 2015 CO Visual Arts

Also, I realize this is probably late in the writing game for Stephen, but 15% sculpture seems like a ton to me, especially when the huge category of architecture is being shaved down to 10%. Re: 2015 CO Visual Arts

I'm planning for 8 rounds in two brackets plus a 1-game final and a tiebreaker packet, for a total of 10 packets. The questions are all about 9 lines powermarked, so I don't think this will take longer than 20-25 minutes per round. People should assume it's doubles for now and start putting teams to...

Re: George Oppen: An Apology, and General Discussion

I just read through ACF Nationals 2014 again recently, and I'm just gonna say here that George Oppen was certainly not beyond Nationals difficulty as far as tossups went. I think the bonus conversions were lower on this set than on Nationals, so maybe there was an issue there, and this set was proba...

Re: College History Bowl 2015 announcement

My recommendation remains that we simply reschedule this. I wrote that RL Stevenson poetry question because I was under the impression that A Child's Garden of Verses is something people read, but if nobody buzzed on those clues, then it was just a bad idea. This was really fun, as always. I don't have much to say about the content, other than that I could definitely tell you were starting to run out of core-quizbowl answerlines. The only effect of that was that this set wasn't as clearly easier than Eyes V as was advertised. Not that this was an issue;...

Re: George Oppen at U. Maryland (21 Feb. 2015)

We played Eyes, and Doug won. The format was starting out in two rooms, then taking the top 4 or 5 in each room after 50 tossups and combining. Final standings were determined by the scoring in the second half, and the bottom playoff room didn't keep score. So here are the stats that I have: Tossups...

Since there are 13 people signed up for Eyes, would it be better to run two rooms and break into a upper/lower bracket halfway through? I've always found 10+ people in a shootout to be non-ideal.
