Re: Kentucky 09-10

Also, I found it strange that when you said the incorrect unit, answers were counted incorrect, but when no unit was given at all, the answers more counted correct. Well yeah, you can't really say that 2km is equivalent to 2m and then gripe about it. I see your point here, but the way KAAC should f...

Re: Kentucky HSAPQ All-star Team

Consolidating all of this, what does everyone think of the following format? 1) Split off into groups of 6-8 for prelim rounds. 2) Getting the best set (be it 8,16,32... we can figure it out later) into a separate room. 3) Report the results from the finals room and ask for the finals participants t...

Re: Kentucky HSAPQ All-star Team

Let's say Jack and Victor are the two best lit players and Scott is the third best. Further suppose that Dowell is there and is beating Scott in arts. Scott is completely overshadowed by the combination of Jack, Victor, and Dowell, when in fact Scott would compare favorably against any of the three...

Re: Kentucky HSAPQ All-star Team

For example, if I am in a room with an assortment of specialists and generalists, I will likely get many of the lit questions. The tryouts should discriminate between those who know the most amongst a group of specialists rather than a generic group of participants as that will certainly be the cas...

There are only three teams that replied to the survey:
Adair County: 1 Varsity (possibly 1 JV)
Sycamore: 1 (Varsity?) team.
Grayson County: 2 teams.
Ezell-Harding: 1 team.
Danville: 2 teams.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Has anyone in Kentucky thought about mirroring the Collaborative Middle School Tournament? I think it would be really interesting to see how KY middle schools do at good quizbowl. It would certainly be an eye-opener for a lot of Kentucky middle school teams. When I was at LTMS I actually thought th...

2) Dunbar B is fast. Very fast. Don't get me wrong, they're very knowledgable and good at quizbowl in general. But the biggest thing I noticed from them is that their reaction time to a clue they know is very quick. It seemed like every question saw one of our kids buzz just a split second after th...

Re: Dunbar Academic Fall Tournament (10/24/09) (NSC Qualifier)

If we had delayed teams about 20 or so minutes, this problem wouldn't have happened. But certain non-stats people of the team decided to rush out schedules. The next time Dunbar hosts a tournament, this will hopefully not ever happen again. This was due to certain stats people's decisions that led ...

HSAPQ is much better quality than NAQT. Better questions make your tournament better which, in turn, gets more high-caliber teams to attend.

Re: Interest in tournaments at Centre?

Right, cause Joe would not have known when to announce until told so. Anyways, it seemed rather odd to bring up the failure of a past tournament that was pretty much not the Centre team's fault and then to imply this tournament, that probably won't even exist as I've already mentioned, would suffer...

Re: Interest in tournaments at Centre?

Given that the tournament is coming up in about three weeks you should probably start formalizing invitations and format in order to avoid something similar to what happened last year.
