Re: ACF Nationals 2017 (4/22 - 4/23)

I have attached to this post a revised schedule for the playoffs. It features 2 changes: the bottom bracket has a new schedule (due to the Ohio State drop) and the seeds in the Brooklyn bracket are now designated "Bk" instead of "Br". For seeds #1 thru #6, there should be no change. This schedule do...

Re: The Barbarism of Monetization

There's also the added cost of running a tournament because of NAQT's no-electronic-copies policy. There's the dead-weight cost of paying for printing and shipping , money that leaves the quiz bowl community forever into the hands of Fedex. For many, there's the cost of making copies of hundreds of...

I don't think anyone would argue that NAQT isn't a force for good in quizbowl. Posts criticizing NAQT for their behavior ("NAQT against the community") are usually solely about NAQT's college sets and the way they run SCT/ICT. This is distinct from any of their HS work. (Not that their college work ...

Yes, in part you'd have more on the easier easy side than the harder easy side. The problem is that the binning process is imprecise in the scenario I was considering in my head. If 90% conversion was the target, standard would ideally have most parts clustered around 85-95%. The 3-4 harder than sta...

I thought Cody was saying that the difficulties of all the easy parts combined form of a bell curve. So if you have 20 easy parts, maybe 3-5 are very easy, 10-14 are standard, and 3-5 are a bit challenging. Also I don't think anyone is claiming that the distribution is perfectly normal, or should b...
