Actually, there are 42 going to Chicago. A team dropped at the last minute, which is why I'm being sent to DC rather than Chicago as a moderator. PS: Give me a shout if you see me in DC! For what it's worth, I'd agree on the 4/4 thing. Last year, people thought I was somewhat crazy predicting all the Illinois teams (either 6 or 7) to get into playoffs, and it almost happened (probably would have if Auburn weren't missing a key player). This year, I'd say about 2-1 odds in favor of 4...

I actually called the tournament director. She told me that only two teams applied ... Indian Hills and Franklin Lakes. (Indian Hills will be the NJ rep this year.) For a lot of teams that don't have experience, are just starting out, or tend to play a LOT on speed-oriented formats, lists can be a good starting point. They can also be useful sometimes in coming up with ideas for writing questions--by no means am I saying to use them to write the actual question...
