Re: Ladue Invitational Spring Tournament (LIST) - 4/2/2011

As 18 is divisible by a bunch of integers, and the tournament is this weekend, I'm closing the field. Any new teams will go on the waitlist until we have enough to expand.

Re: LIST is looking for mirrors!

Just so y'all know, the list of tournaments running on LIST above is still accurate; we would love to have more than just one outside mirror! The set is turning out really nicely, and if you're interested in hosting a mirror, I could show you a small sample of our work so far.

Just a reminder that this is coming up, so if anyone wants to have a chance to win the inaugural LIST or something, they should sign up soon. These questions will be good, I promise!

In Missouri at least, we have teams that literally cannot apply for wildcard bids due to MSHSAA regulations.

LIST is looking for mirrors!

The Ladue Invitational Spring Tournament is looking for mirrors nationwide! We will offer 15 packets FOR THE VERY LOW PRICE OF TEN DOLLARS PER TEAM. Mirrors will preferably be on or after April 2nd, 2011 (the date of our tournament), though if you want to run a tournament a few weeks earlier, that c...

Re: On-going season rankings

I think another consideration might want to be made here, which is that the results of one or two head-to-head games don't really mean much. When both teams are putting up 22 ppb, and say, 5 powers per game, they are combining for 10 powers per game, meaning each tossup is 12.5 points (on average), ...

Re: How small is the math canon?

In general, I think math tossups should come from an expanded high school math curriculum. What I mean is that instead of stretching up towards higher college level math, we stretch out to include more obscure things from the high school curriculum (geometry, algebra, calculus, number theory, etc)....

Re: How small is the math canon?

I argue that the math canon is (or ought to be considered) quite large, including: (1) Mathematicians - If Nobel Prize winners are fair game in science and literature, so too should Fields Medalists be fair game in math. Despite having a borderline-unhealthy obsession with mathematics, like the abo...
