Re: National Tournaments Preparation

If I remember correctly, ACF Fall is supposed to be around High School Nationals difficulty. As the above poster said, college tournaments should be read and even attended if you want to do well at High School nationals. A good thing to study for nationals is less famous works. For example, the only...

Re: Online Skype Practice League - Round 2

Actually, If I can hurry home from Band practice, I can make it to an 8:45 match. I don't have band practice every week, so I should be able to stay in and just get a substitute for the days I just can't make it.

Re: Online Skype Practice League - Round 2

This is directed towards everybody, but is there another day that works besides Wednesdays for people? Wednesday is the only day of the week I have marching band practice and I really can't miss that. Friday is also a no go. If necessary, I could find replacements for the weeks I can't make it or wa...

Re: Illinois '11-'12

Well to start up some class A discussion, I'd like to throw in my former high school, Litchfield. Without Macomb and Latin, who were undoubtedly the biggest threats of Class A, Litchfield does seem to stand a chance at this year's State Series. Last year, they managed to put up some points the two ...

Put Belvidere North down as "expressing interest," this is one of the tournaments a few of my teammates and I are really interested in going to, but we need to set things up with our Coach before we know for sure if we're coming.

Re: On-going Season Rankings V2.0

Thanks for doing this again, Fred. I'll say that DCC will probably continue to be good. They lose all their "starters" from last year, but they tend to reload. Seven Lakes is probably going to be really good as well. They return all of the players from the team that finished 14th at NSC. Two of Sev...

Re: Subject Area: Literature

I've found that Literature, perhaps even more than any big topic, uses a lot of the same clues over and over again at least at the High School level. Reading packets and playing quizbowl should get you good enough literature knowledge to get most tossups right outside power. Reading the books helps ...

Can I see the tossup in one of the IS Sets about the state of New York? I vaguely recall being shocked that Tammany Hall was within power range.

Yeah, Chris Olson is a beast at Geography and I can definitely see Centennial being a threat next year. Powerful duos seem to be pretty common among the top teams. Lloyd has Abid, Ben has Srinivas, and Nolan has Marcel. I'm really not sure which of these three teams will be the best. I also can't le...

Illinois '11-'12

Next year looks like a promising one for Illinois quizbowl. Even with some promising players leaving (Andrew, Ben, Kevin, and Greg namely), there are still many great teams as well as some rising threats. So what teams from Illinois do you guys think will be the most successful? I'll throw in my $0....

After seeing some of them play at ACE I'd definitely consider them Top 13. Jimmy Haubert is, in particular, an absolute beast at Literature. Brandon Roach and Bobby D J are also excellent players.

Has Srinivas graduated from Carbondale? He is/was Ben's second source of points and I don't really know if they have anybody to replace him as Ben's #2.

Let's not forget about Loyola Academy. Nolan Winkler is really good and him and Marcel are both returning next year. They're definitely around as good as Carbondale if not better, coming from the experience of playing them both.

Fundraising?

Recently I've found out that our school is cutting all of our Quizbowl funding, save for our conference meets and IHSA State Series.
