Re: Question-specific Discussion

That first line seems way too easy. I think even Hugh Selwyn Mauberley is less read than Ars Poetica and the "palpable and mute" line is literally the first line of Ars Poetica so it's immediately recognizable. I can see an argument for moving the Hugh Selwyn Mauberley clue earlier, and in retrospe...

20. Archibald MacLeish wrote that these entities “should be palpable and mute,” and “should not mean, but be.” The speaker of Ezra Pound’s Hugh Selwyn Mauberley mentions how he “strove to resuscitate the dead art” of this practice for three years. How many people can attend NASAT? The maximum is 6, but I don't know if MD will take the max. If I recall correctly, tryouts were not played last year because so few people showed up. Tryouts last year were cancelled because some could not show up and few expressed interest. I don't think the same ...

Re: Accidental Buzzes

As I recall, the buzz occurred and was quickly stated to be an accident, the moderator cleared, several people on our side of the room looked quizzically at him and/or threw their hands in the air, and the moderator (who didn't appear to be very familiar with this particular rule) ruled the buzz to...

The ACF rule is: If the substantive portion of a tossup has not yet begun—for example, if the moderator has only said “Next tossup,” or “Next tossup. It was…” and not read anything that could possibly indicate what the answer is—and a player buzzes in and claims to have accidentally pressed the but...
