Re: BENJI at UC Berkeley (California Cup #4 3/16)

Yep, I did enjoy the tournament. I don't think I've ever been able to fit 13 rounds into a single day before-- it was lots of fun (even those last 2 gut-wrenching rounds against Escobar).

Re: BENJI at UC Berkeley (California Cup #4 3/16)

On the stats, we found a possible error in Arcadia A's game against Arcadia B. The score in the stats is recorded as 365-180; however, on our own scoresheet, we recorded the score as 425-180.

Re: HELP US. 3 DAYS LEFT

Will be most likely going to arcadia on the 23rd. Sounds great! We'd always love to see new teams in the field. Sometimes the Los Angeles quiz bowl circuit feels lonely... You can officially register for Arcadia's tournament by emailing us at [email protected].com with your team name, and...

Re: I'm making [yet another] new high school quizbowl ranking

Why did Arcadia drop 17 places in the most recent ranking? We haven't been to any new tournaments since the last update.

Re: Quizbowl Central

When I search an item and go to the 2nd page of results (or 3rd page, etc.), then search a different item, I get sent to the 2nd page of results for that item as well. I'm not sure if this is intentional behavior, but it's really confusing. If the item I'm searching doesn't have more than one page o...

Re: Quizbowl Central

Regarding the first glitch, it seems to happen depending on my window size. When I set my browser window to a bit shorter than usual, I'm also unable to scroll down on a page with 7 results.

Re: Quizbowl Central

After using Quizbowl DB for a while, I've noticed two prominent bugs:

1. I can't scroll down a page when there are 8 results.
2. There is no "prev" button on a page if there are only 2 pages of results.

I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome on Mac OS X.

RSS feeds for study?

I read the news with an RSS reader every day; it's been extremely useful in helping me keep up with current events. On that note, I'm looking for a website that posts quizbowl-relevant info (preferably history) on a regular basis, and is accessible by RSS. For instance, I've been searching for relia...

Re: Southern California Discussion 2012-2013

I hope some Southern California teams will consider making the trip up to Northern California to play in the California Cup series . You'll get a heavy discount and free food, as well as the chance to play plenty of games against solid competition. Great prizes and fun are guaranteed. "Great prizes...

Re: NHBB & 60 Second rounds

Also, some of my teammates like NHBB almost solely because it has a 4-quarter format, so we do need to remember the whole "appealing to the masses" idea, not only to the top teams. I just want to point out that this is not necessarily something that appeals to the masses. My work establishing MOQBA...

Re: University High School History Bowl/Bee Tournament (12/15)

I mentioned this on the Socal Quizbowl Facebook group a few days ago, but Arcadia is planning on sending 4-5 teams to your December 15 tournament. This isn't an official message from Arcadia History Bowl (we'll send the full details by email in a few days), but I just wanted to give you guys a heads...

Re: ProtoBowl

One more thing: when you set Protobowl to only display a certain category of questions (e.g. "history"), it doesn't read questions automatically. I have to keep pressing the "Next" button to see the next question. I'm not sure if this is intentional.

Re: ProtoBowl

Here are two more problems that I've noticed with the app:

- It doesn't accept numbers written like "2nd" or "3rd". For instance, if the answer is "Fourth Crusade", you can't answer "4th Crusade".

- When a question has a (+) sign to designate the end of a power, ProtoBowl doesn't recognize it.

Re: ATLAS @ Arcadia HS (9/29/12) [IS-118]

I've had several schools in the region that I've contacted and communicated with express interest in attending, but not much else- that interest stops just short of wanting to put together a team and pay $60 to play some competition in a weird format they've never heard of before Treat it as a loss...

Re: ProtoBowl

The interface is incredibly slick. I love it. However, my main complaint is that the chat feature seems to be broken. Whenever I try chatting, the questions stop loading on the page. I have to refresh the page for the questions to start loading again. I've only used ProtoBowl once so far, so I don't...

Re: SQBS for Mac available soon

I don't have much experience in stat keeping, but I have tried both the Windows version and Mac version of SQBS, and I like the interface this new Mac version a lot better. I suppose it's because the consolidated tournament setup window just makes a lot more sense in my mind. I'm planning to use SQB...

Re: Improving SoCal's Circuit

Regarding blackout dates, anyone planning a tournament should also consider the schedule for the We the People competition (aka Government Team). In Arcadia, all of our quiz bowl captains in the past 3 years (including this year's) have been members of Gov Team. There isn't a set date for the Gov Te...

Re: Books "for Quizbowl"

I can only speak about history, but in my experience, pretty much any history textbook is a good resource for quiz bowl, as long as the subject that it covers is specific enough! You're not going to learn much from a standard world history textbook, since it'll only have room to cover subjects that ...

I just wanted to drop a word here, and say that I really appreciate the effort put into creating the archive. It's been incredibly useful for my team's practices (especially since we're too cheap to buy NAQT's "practice questions"). :P

How much would postage generally cost, if we were to need an extra set in Southern California?
