Re: Missouri Open Question-Specific Discussion

I wasn't aware the fixed do = do on C Yeah, it's a neat system if you can get your ear wrapped around it. C is Do, so if you're in the key of F, you're in Fa Major, the scale goes Fa, So, La, Te , Do, Re, Mi, Fa. If you're in G, that's So major, and the scale is So, La, Ti, Do, Re, Mi, Fi , So. It'...

Re: Missouri Open Question-Specific Discussion

a band teacher who showed up to play who is a local middle school coach normally Yeah, that was me. I had a lot of fun with this. The TU on the note G was the only one that didn't have me with 2 or 3 possible answers rolling around in my head after a while. Fixed Do = Do on C = Sol on G. I teach mo...

Re: Coaching a New Middle School team?

By the looks of the results from the MSNCT, your team seems to have a fairly good grasp on a lot of game play as it is. As you were the majority of your team's points, I think what you're driving at in your question is how to keep things going there as you move on, so I'll speak to retaining and rec...

Re: 2013 NAQT MSNCT: Congratulations Barrington Station!

According to the parents in the room (I was with my A team), Washington B had an issue with a coach more than a moderator. One of my players started an incorrect response, paused mid-word, and then said the correct answer. The moderator accepted it. The coach started to argue, and at one point was t...

Re: Buzzers

Andersons are ... easy to setup, I'll second that. We got a set (tabletop) this last summer, and added a 2nd later on. As we expanded our team size and needed to practice in more than one room, it was very important that the buzzers be something that 7th graders could set up without setting the bui...

Re: CMST IV @ Washington Middle School, Washington, MO March 23

Teams were put in 2 pools of 6, and were then seeded into 3 groups of 4. The top group saw Washington B beat Washington A 320-200 for what amounted to the final. Washington C beat Sullivan for 3rd place.

Re: Kentucky 2012-13

I'm sorry to say that Breckinridge County is not exactly in the best shape That's too bad. I remember how QB (and in particular, Governor's Cup) was back in that time, and it's light years removed from what my students do now. There was always plenty of talent in the area, and it sounds like it's s...

Re: Kentucky 2012-13

You all seem to be the people to ask - what kind of state is Breckinridge Co.'s (my alma mater) team in? I graduated in '96 after we had placed 4th at Governor's Cup. I know my coach (Wanda Tate), my former elementary principal and teammates' father (Ints Kampars), and one of my former teammates (Ti...
