Just to add on a bit about Darien- while obviously we lose Michael, we've got some very talented and ambitious up and coming players and I hope we'll improve over the course of the season. It's also certainly not going to be all returning MMS MSNCT champions. Out of the A team, we return Riya Krishn...

I'll be honest, that will be something I'll have to get used to, but I'll swallow my pride and say that I have some work to do when it comes to team chemistry. I'm used to the coach doing the organizing and such, so taking all of that over can be massive and I honestly would like it if people on my...

Few of them take quiz Bowl seriously and treat more as a social gathering. Is there anything wrong with this? I mean this is not DI collegiate football where you could possibly make hundreds of millions of dollars (unless you are :kenj:)? Is there a problem with just having fun? Now, do not get me ...

Do you have a group of players who are serious about quiz bowl? I agree with the people who've mentioned that not everyone's going to be as serious about quiz bowl as you are (which imo is totally fine). If you do have that core group of committed players, though, consider doing separate, more serio...

Since there's still no discussion set up I just wanted to throw some general thoughts out there. Can your teammates chip in so you can split the price? Often the buzzer discount you'll get from bringing buzzers to tournaments will "pay back" the initial cost of the system.

My Analysis: #8) Darien: Michael Borecki is a very talented player, and Darien should have a good chance of winning many of the tournaments that they attend. Additionally, John Phipps is a valuable asset to the team and is a top-tier player within the circuit. Darien will continue to be a top team ...

Seconding carding and Quinterest- I use a combination of the two a lot to not only get a good sense of clues that come up, but retain them too. I feel like adding in a timepiece- watch, stopwatch, on a buzzer system, etc.- would just make a match more complicated and inefficient. You'd need a third staffer (unless the mod or scorekeeper is going to time, which isn't happening), plus, timing five-second spans of time, right after a player bu...

Also, for science tossups in middle school, I found that reading middle-school level science textbooks helped. And, like everyone in the thread already said- read packets and take notes. Quinterest is a great site if you want to look up tossups about specific topics; for lit, Sparknotes helps too.
