Re: Quiz Bowl & Metropolitan Areas in 2017

New Hampshire has hosted 2 NHBB annually for several years now-Hanover H.S. and ConVal High School have been the host schools.

Re: 2017 NSC set discussion

*the question to ask here is “where is a player in this field most likely to have learned this information?" "A CO packet" is probably a bad answer to this. A followup question is, "If it’s very unlikely to produce buzzes, is there any reason to put it in the question?" "Yes, to teach players about ...

Re: New England date claims '17-'18

Plymouth Regional High School in New Hampshire would tentatively like to claim the date of September 30, 2017. We will be mirroring the newly-created University of Maryland house write set, a regular-difficulty high school set, following standard NAQT rules. We are setting a cap at 24 and would love...

Plymouth Regional (NH) will likely bring 2 teams and a buzzer and staffer.

It looks like at NAQT that MATCH at AMSA isn't giving individual stats nor PPB, but the results on HSQB do (or did).

I will probably be able to do it, but I'm not sure when your deadline will be. On another note, I'm still waiting to hear if Rumney, NH is going to send a team to your MS tournament. They have kids on the sign-up, but sports are creating conflict.

Re: Small School Pre-Nationals Discussion

I have to give a plug to our kids here in Plymouth. Last year they finished 17th at SSNCT and were a buzzer-beater loss to Good Hope away from the quarter finals, and they had the bad fortunate of facing Lehigh Valley twice. This year's team has played very well when the A team is together, which ha...

Re: Midseason Poll

Arcadia was definitely one of the teams not in the previous poll that stood out when I was looking at that region. The toughest thing that I found was trying to limit such an incredibly broad geographic area (U.S. and Canada) to 25, when so many of the p/b statistics are so incredibly similar across...

Re: Midseason Poll

but if they never qualified for nationals, are you likely to be mentioning them on your national poll ballot?
True enough, and I figure as such that it would be impossibly time-consuming to try to put a designation for every school without having a need to do it.

Other than the previously mentioned comment about looking at previous SSNCT reports, and even that is not always accurate because schools' statuses change from year to year.

Re: Midseason Poll

With the question of small school polls, even when playing in tournaments we don't ever really know who is small-school and who is not, so it is often hard to determine who is fighting for the same small school standing spots in any given tournament. Without knowing the exact numbers of a school's e...

Southside's huge performance at Harvard was a big factor in my polling as well. That was an incredible field and winning that tournament was a huge accomplishment.

Re: New England Discussion '16-'17

And since this is a New England/Northeast thread page, there are many very strong teams in Vermont as well. Essex A is really tough, Middlebury A was phenomenal at nationals last year (SSNCT), and Burlington, CVU, Mt. Mansfield and S. Burlington all were very strong at PHAT with very good PPB ratings.

Re: New England Discussion '16-'17

I would urge you to continue to keep an eye on Plymouth A. Understandably we are still young and "new" to the circuit and being in the small-school division is tough going against much bigger and/or selective schools, but if you look at the growth from last year to this year and the potential for th...

Plymouth Regional has 2 teams registered, but we have enough interest to fill a C team. It looks like as of now 23 teams are in. If you have room for another team, we would like to bring a third team.

After reading all the comments above and being fairly new to the scene, yet having brought a team to SSNCT and making the playoffs including a victory over one of the top 10 ranked small-school teams in the poll, I'm just curious what other things are you looking at to get new teams noticed? Re: Preseason Poll

It is going to pretty tough for anyone in the small school division that has to take on Lehigh Valley this year. Alex is an amazing player and is fun to watch play, despite the fact that he is usually burying your team all by himself. I really like how NAQT has changed the format for the SSNCT divis...

I just wanted to note that Plymouth Regional qualifies as a small school. I am assuming that if this is an open invitational for nationals (all-school), that it is also a qualifier for the SSNCT, correct?

Re: New Hampshire Quizbowl?

I think the New Hampshire circuit is improving. This past year there was one obvious team that stood out in Bishop Guertin, at least on the NAQT Circuit, and as always they were very good on the NH circuit as well. Not many teams play on the NAQT Circuit due to financial and geographical challenges....

He may just come with his mom and be a solo...
