Re: 2011 Michigan High School State Championship (3/12/11)

It was... in both cases :( Against CC, CC needed to power and 30 to win or 10 and 30 to tie, but then DCD negged and DCC 10 and 30ed to win. The 2nd game, DCD was ahead by 25 going in to the last tossup, but GPN powered it and 20 the bonus to win. DCC B has fewer games because they won the winner's ...

I just checked it to be sure. There was a slight error in reading -5 and 15. The number should be correct now.

Also, DCC A lost to DCC B in the winner's finals. A 4th-5th match is happening right now between Novi A and GPN.

Re: Difficulty

I didn't like the HMS Victory tossup that much because the battles that Nelson fought in are way more important than his ship. In my opinion, it'd be fine for a bonus part, but is a rather unfortunate thing to tossup. I felt like this tournament was done fairly well in difficulty, especially in most...

That tossup on chariots was pretty bad, and had a not true clue something to the lines of "they were last used at the battle of Gaugamela." That clue is entirely false as they were also used en masse in Ipsus, some 30 years later.

What if it was on the EXARCHATE OF AFRICA/CARTHAGE?!

Personally, I don't find polity confusing at all, and can easily deal with it switching to country/city/whatever. I also agree with Ben and Bruce on how polity can be useful.

For what it's worth, the Schroder-Bernstein was in a very early section of my intro to analysis book and my professor talked about it. I found the tossup on density to be very confusing, maybe the text could be posted? The bonus part on phase space was described very oddly from my memory. The uncertainty principle tossup was kinda fraudable, but that could be just the topic. The frequency/wavenumber/group velocity bonus was quite a...

I felt like this was one of the more poorly written tournaments this year. Although I was fairly pleased at the first few packets read at our site, I felt like the tournament quickly diverged. One huge thing was bonus variability. For example, in Editors 1, there as a bonus on Secret HIstory/Procopi...

Reading for this tournament, I thought it was pretty average, and the bonuses were fine. I don't think it was as good as last year's set. I definitely felt the science was often confusingly worded.
