I would like to extend further congrats to the following teams: Easton, for competing in their first tournament ever . Catonsville, for competing in their first pyramidal tournament. Glenelg, Mt. Hebron, Poly, Atholton, and Wilde Lake for competing in their first pyramidal tournament besides Centenn...

Re: NAQT MD & DC State Championship @ Oakland Mills HS, 3/24/12

We will be doing 1 bracket of 8 and two brackets of 7 for the prelims, and then rebracketing, with the top two of each bracket making up one bracket, and so on and so forth.

See you all tomorrow in the auditorium!

Re: Blue Hen Invitational @ University of Delaware - 3/10

This was a very well-run tournament. OM thoroughly enjoyed the trash round, as well. The questions, though, were underwhelming, with some repeat material and some weird powers.

It looks like we might be able to field a team, and we'll probably have a more definitive answer by Wednesday at the latest.

Re: What Happens to DC-Area Quizbowl Next Year?

This is mostly speculation, but: Marshall, Gonzaga, and OM are all on similar levels in my opinion. I think that Marshall has some seniors graduating, though, while Gonzaga and OM have almost none.Gonzaga I know will keep getting better, and so will we if we can get some more team members to go to t...

Oakland Mills finished 6th with a record of 5-4, losing the fifth place game to Caesar Rodney. This was a great tournament!

Re: Tips for a brand new quizbowl player

Another thing that cannot be ignored is going to good tournaments. Due to your mention of It's Academic, I assume that you are in the Metro DC area, which means that you have a huge amount of well-written tournaments with strong fields within an hour's drive. Actually going to tournaments is what I ...

Oakland Mills sadly cannot go, because of an It's Ac taping.

Re: DC/MD/VA/DE Date Claim '11-'12

It might be a good idea to add the following It's Academic taping dates ( Bold designates dates that conflict with tournaments in the area). Washington Quarterfinals: February 4 , March 3, April 28 . Washington Semis: May 5 . Washington Finals: May 12. Baltimore Quarters: March 17 , April 14 . Balti...

Re: DC/MD/VA/DE Date Claim '11-'12

For all future tournaments, it would be a good idea to invite as many teams as possible. A google docs spreadsheet of all It's Academic participating schools is located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... mFHcXdya2c

Ok, here's what I did. I made a Google Docs spreadsheet with all It's Academic schools on it. Fill in the rest as needed. For other, put anything you know about the school or program.

Re: Green Eggs and Hammond 2012

After we met up with our B team for lunch, our new players thought this was the worst set they ever heard and begged us to play pyramidal questions. It was actually kind of an effective way to make sure our newer members prefer pyramidal Quizbowl. Yeah, I'm hoping that this tournament will help con...

Green Eggs and Hammond 2012

Hammond's coach didn't post a thread on this this time, so I thought I'd do it. There were 50 teams this year, from around 24 schools, split into 5 brackets of 10. Each team played 5 games, with 5 teams staying in one room the whole time, and the other 5 rotating around. Because there could be a max...

Re: Centennial Tournament Ellicott City, MD Sunday (12/04/11)

Oakland Mills lost to Daniel in the 3rd place game.

The tournament was overall fairly well run, considering the size (54 teams). We had no problems with readers, unlike almost every tournament we go to. The bonuses were pretty up and down in difficulty, and the lead-ins were too easy in some places.

Re: Attracting more teams to the DC circuit

If a "good quizbowl" team is stuck waiting at an It's Ac taping, it wouldn't be a bad idea to proselytize. I, for one, didn't know about hsquizbowl until I searched for directions to the GDS tournament. I'm sure that this is the case for other teams, that they don't think that speed is the...

Re: Attracting more teams to the DC circuit

Our morning (7 games, including a crossover) was three games we had no chance in (Whitman, St. Anselm's and QO), two that were or should have been competitive (RM B and Blair B), one that we should have dominated (Landon B) and one that I have no idea on (Oakland Hills who stomped us but didn't do ...
