Lee, I may be wrong, but I believe that since NAQT posted the podcasts we are allowed to discuss specific questions now (people playing in the mirrors aren't supposed to view these threads) Now that NAQT has posted the podcasts, we'll follow their lead and ask people who may be playing the mirror to...

You're surprised an NAQT tournament had a dearth of art and music questions?! Perhaps I should be more specific. All the tournaments I have ever played in were played on NAQT questions. All our practices have been on NAQT questions (excepting three on questions I wrote myself that I, obviously, did...

In response to the comment on the increase in politics, current events, and "trash," I did notice that as well, but having thought about it, isn't cultural literacy important in the REAL WORLD? If NAQT wants to change their general distribution, that's fine by me, it's their right to do t...

etchdulac, just out of curiosity, do you remember what team you saw us (santa monica) play? Or, failing that, what room(s) were you moderating in? Thanks for the compliment, by the way, though Cistercian did tear us apart in that game.

Maybe this is just me being bitter, but did anyone else notice that there seemed to be an usually high distribution of current events/politics and pop culture? I think that and the always high geography distribution did us in in the playoffs. Well, that and the fact that we played like crap. In any ...

I'm intrigued because California teams have always stated they can't make the trip out unless it's earlier. (Some of you California teams verify that with us.) For whatever reason, they like an earlier date. I can't speak definitively for the rest of the California schools, but I believe that most ...

I think it's especially difficult to predict performance at HSNCT for west coast teams that haven't played teams from outside their region (i.e. every socal team going to nationals, except for edison who played in one nocal tourney). Whereas the top teams in the midwest/east coast (DCC, State Colleg...

With all due respect, I think that your analogy to Decathlon doesn't entirely fit the situation. I know that Sci Bowl and Ocean Sci Bowl also require fixed rosters from states to nationals, but the difference is that the only way to qualify for nationals is via those state tournaments, which are usu...

Just as an addendum to my previous post: I talked to my teammates and coach and Santa Monica will be attending with at least one probably two teams if the tournament is moved to the 20th. If it remains on the 13th then, as I said before, we will not be attending at all. Incidentally, as mentioned ab...

I'll relay the announcement on Tuesady to our coach, who is currently in D.C. for Sci Bowl Nationals, but I don't know if we can come up with the money anyway; we have to pay for NAQT HSNCT out of pocket. Also, this may be irrelevant since, as I mentioned, I don't know if we can come, but our prom i...

Thanks for the endorsement, bigtrain. I too would like to think that we could contend, probably not win but at least contend. Obviously rankings are a matter of opinion (thanks for making me the only Samo player not ranked by the way ;)), so I couldn't say that you ranked them incorrectly with absolute certainty. In regards to how the moderator recognized answers the rest of the match, there was no clear protocol for bonuses.
