Re: 2009 NAQT HSNCT
...but I don't want NAQT to smile and nod and suppose that it's doing just fine because the middle 60% of teams are satisfied. This is a national championship, and to earn that moniker it should be satisfying the top 20%, too. Technically, we were on the bubble of the top 20% of teams, but I think ...

Re: 2009 HSNCT question discussion
As the captain of a team which probably fits as well into the "silent majority" that NAQT caters to in its efforts to spread Quiz Bowl across America, I think that the fact that our opinions not only correspond greatly to many of the comments made previously might be noteworthy as represen...

Re: HSAPQ National All Star Academic Tournament in 2010
I actually suggested that too on the Missouri forum, but Charlie's response to that was that all-star teams would just have to spontaneously form, which I found a trifle...implausible.Shcool wrote:This sounds like a job for MOQBA.

Re: HSAPQ National All Star Academic Tournament in 2010
To further that point, we were discussing this tournament in the Missouri message board, and Charlie told me that if an all star team formed, the students involved would just have to figure out how to split the application costs and organize the logistics. I'm not sure how easy that would be in othe...

Re: Missouri 08-09
Disingenuous was probably the wrong word to use there--I do apologize for implying that it was an intentinoal omission. My point was that it was incongruous to compare Ladue's performance at the NAQT Qualifier & MSHSAA State--especially because the margins between the top several teams were extr...

Re: Missouri 08-09
For those who are curious, the MSHSAA State results are at http://champs.mshsaa.org/results/box.asp?Box_Score_ID=352. Personally, I think Ladue (which took 1st at MSHSAA State) falls in strength between the extremes presented in the argument that was going on at AHAN. Had they had a full team at NAQ...

Re: Pre-Nationals High School 2009 Poll
I think part of the issue with Coach Rutsky might be that he's worried that his team is better than the poll will read--which is certainly understandable, given how important a high ranking is to continued funding. To answer that concern...since the issue is presumably funding for the next year, cou...

Re: RAQIT I @ Robinson SS, Fairfax, VA -- POSTPONED INDEFINITELY
Admittedly, some of the issue might be the fact that there really aren't that many providers of pyramidal questions out there (house-writes and mirrors notwithstanding), and thus those few providers can more or less dictate the terms to tournament directors who would like to use good questions. I do...

Hey, are there any Illinois teams going to Truman Bowl I on the 21st of March? Parkway Central is actually doing very well this year in terms of playing good Quiz Bowl--they took 3rd at WUHSAC and tied for 3rd with us (Francis Howell Central) at the NAQT Qualifier, as well as placing 1st at Mizzou's Tiger Bowl--and this is all with incom...

And thanks for the well run tournament, by the way. It was a pleasure attending.

Actually, I think I'm the only one who complained...and to be honest, I wouldn't be too surprised if I was wrong.
So, no worries about me complaining if I see the distribution and I was wrong...
P.S. Yes, I know that I haven't asked for it yet...I've been busy.

Hey, what was the distribution? We heard something like 2/2 Current Events, 2/2 Pop Culture, 2/2 Science, and 2/2 Math Computation (with the remainder being history/literature), but that's just our guess. *Just to note, we also heard fine arts, religion, mythology, philosophy, and social sciences--I...

Okay, first of all, thank you Charles Dees for addressing my comments point by point. Okay, along similar lines as what Alex (alexdz) put down, critiquing your post point by point : But first, a disclaimer. I must admit, I don't know how Quiz Bowl is run outside of the state of Missouri. Perhaps it is some sort of utopia where every single match is won based on which team knows more,...
