Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Speaking of unusual formats, what is up with 18 question games? This is the second tournament this year in Minnesota featuring this (the first was EFT at Macalester). I question how much time it saves and how it affects the fairness of games. Also, it seems like at SnowCAT they could have switched o...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

In the TOMCAT format, the first ten tossups are 10 points, the next ten are 15 points, the next ten are 20, and the last ten are 25 despite uniform difficulty. R. informs me that the last section of this ("uniform difficulty") is not true; in fact, we sort the packets such that the more d...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Looks like they finally updated results for the league matches..... Speaking of the league I think the single elimination playoffs are highly unfortunate espically the way that they are seeded as the top East team and the second West team always meet in quaterfinals and the second East team and the...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Central might send a team to SnoCAT but we'll be missing Martin if we come so won't be contending for the championship in any case.

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure why we went to TOMCAT instead of ACF Winter. Personally, I would have preferred to go to ACF Winter. I think the entry fee for TOMCAT was only $50 though http://www.naqt.com/mqba/tomcat/2010/announcement.html so it wasn't quite as bad Gaurav painted it. But some members of...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

In the TOMCAT format, the first ten tossups are 10 points, the next ten are 15 points, the next ten are 20, and the last ten are 25 despite uniform difficulty .Also there are no bonuses. So because our 20 tossups were earlier in the game we got 310 points, while they got 15 tossups and 305 points. N...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

So, TOMCAT at Roseville happened today. Central won by defeating St. Thomas Academy 400-285 in the final. De La Salle and Blake rounded out the top 4. Eden Prairie and Chaska were absent. Congrats to all the top teams. While the tournament was well run there were some problems with the format. First...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Yeah, like St. Thomas is clearly good and it's not that it was a fluke or something, but they just weren't on the radar for a lot of people, including based on the prelim bracketing as they were in the same bracket as Eden Prarie A. Hopefully, they will come to more tournaments too. Also, speaking o...

Re: 2009 Gopher Invitational @ UMN - December 5

Who was the fourth place team? At the tournament, it seemed like Wayzata got the fourth place trophy though looking at the stats it looks like Eden Prarie B actually finished fourth.

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

So, GINVIT was yesterday and Eden Prarie won pretty easily making them still the team to beat. St. Thomas did surprsingly well finishing third and beating out Chaska, who seemed to be struggle with harder questions without Sam Peterson losing to both St. Thomas and Chanhassen, despite beating Centra...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Well, given my spelling I think I'll stay far clear of any of Question Unlimited's spelling questions or any of their other questions for that matter.

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Well, SOCIAL was today and it was on A-level questions, which seemed a lot shorter/easier than they did last year, but that was probably just me. Anyways, after prelims the top seeds in order I think, were Central, Chaska, Minnetonka, Wayzata, DeLaSalle, with sme other teams roudning up the top 8. I...

Re: Eden Prairie HS mirror of FNT

What's the date of the tournament the MQBA website has it listed as the 14th while this says the 21st? Thanks.

Re: Minnesota '09-'10

Yeah, I come here sometimes too. Anyways, it seems like Eden Prarie is clearly the team to beat this year.
