Picking Richard Montgomery is interesting; especially since they aren't confirmed in the field yet(and you post a disclaimer about why you didn't pick other teams who aren't in the field)...

Also, as of today, DCC is confirmed in the field.

Huh, didn't know that. I got here in Fall '99 for undergrad, but didn't really do much with quizbowl till spring of my junior year. I guess that supports my notion that we'd make for a decent host, provided it went well back then... I think we're more likely to go for ACF than deal with the crazine...

Re: Swiss pairing, I would like to see it. After playing it for two years at HSNCT, I have to say I think it's a much better system than bracketed pools. It helps prevent stacked divisions (as were mentioned above) from skewing the results, and it makes the games much more intense on the whole. I k...

Re: Yes, I'm totally out of the loop...

This tells you I haven't been to ICT since it was run at Chapel Hill... When did ICT go to a prelim bracket format? Whatever happened to power-matching every round all the time because of the inherent problems associated with "arbitrarily" assigning teams into divisions? Am I the only one...

Other advantages of the official hotel are 1) there is a free shuttle from the Metro to the hotel and 2) the hotel is owned by the state of Maryland, so there are no state taxes, which you will have to pay at any other hotel in the area. (1) is a good argument. (2) is not, since those taxes probabl...

The hotel listed on the NAQT site is literally right on campus, albeit on the other side of said campus from where the tournament is. As far as price goes the special rate that NAQT has negotiated is pretty good, though you might be able to do better in one of the hotels farther away from campus. A...

This team was just two people; one was Paco and apologies to the other whose name I have forgotten.

Next, you entirely dodged my point. It wasn't that you were asking teams to staff on byes. I gladly scorekept both rounds that I was on bye, though other members of my team decided simply to watch our D2 teams or otherwise take a break. What I noted was that there was a house team, and that left yo...

As I mentioned earlier, I didn't attend, but one particular tossup I was told about from several different sources really stuck in my craw. There was a tossup on the University of Michigan (based on the affirmative action Supreme Court cases), whose leadin began to the effect of "This universi...

You can still receive multiple bids to nationals if both of your teams qualify, Lawrence. (I.E. NAQT could invite Princeton B and Princeton C or whatever)

2006 NAQT HSNCT

Good morning. As the logistics director of the 2006 NAQT HSNCT, I'm beginning to look for staff for the tournament to be held June 2-4 at the Crowne Plaza O' Hare. I know that several local Illinois high school players/coaches were staff for the tournament last year, and I believe that most of them ...

I am sure of the Duchamp question. As for the other one, I heard it from a teammate about a bonus, but I will look it up on the site. Please don't get me wrong. It will be a fun, competitive tournament, and a berth to the NAQT HSNCT is up for grabs. That's the big dance, folks. Last year 2 out of 3 Illinois teams attending ended up making the playoffs. Not speaking for NAQT, but, actually, there is more than one berth up for grabs(depending on field size)....

In the NAQT finals we finally saw a team that could beat TJ A, and that is TJ A itself. I mean no disrespect to Lakeside; they definitely proved to be the second best team in the field. But, I find it hard to believe that a team could get that many negs against a team of the quality of Lakeside, an...

2005 NAQT ICT

2 Comments Relating to the HSNCT: 1) From talking to Stevenson(my alma mater), I get the impression that they will be playing at the HSNCT and dealing with graduation/Sunday when it comes. I was also at the ICT, helping run the D2 control room. 2) Any high school players or coaches who are intereste...

Yeah, except for the fact that he was right. There were a myriad of factors that contributed to the match. I'm not making excuses; we played extremely poorly. But I think if we replayed that match, the outcome would have been different. The problem is, that doesn't matter. You can't replay the match.
