CYRUS ZHOU from GREAT NECK SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL
I believe it was Ryan Zhang form Great Neck South who finished in the top 5 not Cyrus Zhou.

You'll have to thank White Plains for some of the buzzers as well. I know that Joe beat Mark in the JV Bee.

Re: Buzzing in faster

In our school this past week we had an annual competition between grades in our high school and one of the events was a mock quizbowl event. (They were just edited :chip: questions so that there were no hoses). I managed to win quite a few buzzer races because i recognized this and i buzzed as soon ...

Irvington is also expressing tentative interest,
Unfortunately Irvington can't come because some local tournament dates got switched and now the biggest county wide tournament is on the 21st.

Re: RESCHEDULED: THE SJHS MIRROR OF GSAC XIX, SUNDAY 2/12/12

Also, in Irvington A's match v. Hunter B, we are marked as having gotten 0 tossups, though I think the final total score is right. Through some intense attempted deduction, I have the conclusion that i got 3 tossups and so did Sam Donow with 1 neg amongst the team assuming a likely 20.00 ppb. that ...

Probably around the same time most such 10+ round tournaments end---sometime between 5 & 6 PM.
Will the tournament be 10 rounds for all teams or will it be dependent on how far the team goes? (in other words will it be single elimination with no additional games being played after elimination?)

What is the situation with chaperones? As there likely will be a local league tournament on the same day as NJ States most of my team, including the coach, will be at that tournament. So do I need to bring an adult in association with the school? And if i attend unofficially does the school still qu...

Re: Motivating Teammates

There is a Quiz Bowl group on Facebook. It has over 350 members and it has certainly has helped me. You can play with people around your skill level on tinychat.com. You can also hold additional practices online for the team via skype or tinychat. Practicing on your free time in a game style environ...

On the NAQT website, and they may also link it on here. Yes, I am aware that it will be on the NAQT website but i was hoping for an alternate page that may have all the stats up earlier. For example, LIFT XI stats this year were up on the database within a couple of days but not on the NAQT website...

though their B team is showing some promise and may be able to continue to be impressive next year. Their B team is all seniors also, to my knowledge at least, so their C team will likely become their A team. However, if the B team shows anything it is that White Plains can put in inexperienced sen...

I don't know much about Westchester, but it does seem like that region has generally been stronger than Long Island this year, which makes sense considering the group of seniors that graduated from Long Island schools in 2011. The good Westchester performances are based on a few key players and mos...

Re: Half Hollow Hills West Invitational (Dix Hills, NY 1/7/2012)

TDs should have discretionary power to force certain teams to play elite, if it's offered, but even that should really be reserved for obvious situations. I assume it would also be used to round out the field because if teams self-select then they would likely not create the perfect number of teams...

Re: Half Hollow Hills West Invitational (Dix Hills, NY 1/7/2012)

I started writing this before Sam posted his reply but I feel a second opinion wouldn't hurt. I may be wrong. This tournament really should have 3 divisions next year: Elite, Regular, and JV. Each could have about 30 teams. While the example you make with White Plains is good, I cannot help feel tha...

Re: Half Hollow Hills West Invitational (Dix Hills, NY 1/7/2012)

While i think it would be awesome to have at least 100 teams at this tournament, 96 would be a really good number of teams as there would be 16 groups of 6 and the top two (or four if you add an extra round) in each group would make playoffs.

Re: From Chip to "good quizbowl"

One of the main problems of our team, in my opinion at least, is that there are more people than in the past but they are less committed. This is in itself may present a large problem in transitioning to "good quizbowl" because the members of the team may be less inclined to go out of West...
