Re: Planned HS Top 25(+?) Rankings

FWIW, Sycamore (OH) loses #1 player (48 ppg), returns #2 (30 ppg), plus both ~0 ppg players. Sycamore is not currently in the vicinity of being good and will probably never attend a national tournament ever again so yeah. Other Ohio teams: South Range loses pretty much everyone (i.e. Jarret). Tippec...

Re: NAQT distribution change 2010-11

I'd like to see technology and science current events excised. These questions are obnoxious to write and probably end up badly (although I don't recall what questions actually fit into these categories last year). Speaking from inexperience here, I don't see what is inherently troublesome about sc...

Re: let's talk about conversion stats

While there may be a handful of teams who would not come if trash / non-academic material was reduced or eliminated, I don't think it would be an "irreplaceable" group. For instance, I would venture to guess that 90-95% of the teams in the Southwest Ohio region that I am familiar with hav...

Re: How should NAQT change its distribution for 2010-11?

Even so, with (for example) the current 2/2 econ per packet set, that comes out to about 20/20 econ per year for NAQT. If there aren't even 20 reliably convertible tossups in the high school econ canon, I guess there's no hope for increasing social science's share of the distribution. That's a sham...

Re: How should NAQT change its distribution for 2010-11?

It's one thing to say "NAQT should reduce trash to a minimum less than academic category X." But this argument is framed as "NAQT needs to substantially increase the amount of social science in its sets," and that we will find harder to work with. Some conversion numbers (2005-2...

Re: How should NAQT change its distribution for 2010-11?

I don't see how it's acceptable for there to be more trash than actual, indisputably academic categories like social science and fine arts. While in the long run, reducing geography might be a good idea, that's far less pressing an issue than increasing the distribution of the two aforementioned sig...

Re: 2010 HSNCT discussion thread

A fair amount of people take DiffEQ in high school No. Yeah a grand total of 0 people from my high school have ever taken this class before graduating. Yeah, see, I took differential equations in high school but still ended up zeroing that bonus. We never learned anything about RLC circuits, but I ...

Re: 2010 HSNCT discussion thread

Wait, THEIR whole team heard the wrong answer? What exactly does that mean? The reason why it is not protestable in abstract is because everyone can hear different things. If both teams came to an agreement that the wrong answer was said though (this has happened in matches because quizbowl teams s...

Isn't Bossick's Basho also being run on the sectionals set? Or is that not happening?
