Re: BHSAT XXI at Yale University (March 24, 2012)

I would love so much to go to this, but it's, as it was last year, on the same date as the VT Scholars' Bowl finals.

Re: Open Academic Tournament at Hanover - 2/18/12 @ HHS

I am pleased to say that the OATH went very smoothly. Our field consisted of 15 teams from 3 states, including New York! Phillips Exeter A and B accumulated undefeated (7-0) records before meeting in the championship game, in which freshman Andrew Xu got 9 toss-ups in leading PEA B to victory over t...

Re: On-going Season Rankings V2.0 - so is this where i complain?

I do not mean to deprecate my team and its accomplishments, but for what it is worth, I think you have us overrated. Bonus conversion seems to be the main metric by which you rank teams. Having a ppb of 19 or 20 instead of one of 22 is, in the vast majority of cases, not going to alter the outcome o...

Re: RESULTS: VT NAQT Championship (2/10/12)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Hanover (ostensibly a NH school) gets included in VT since part of its school district encompasses a nearby part of VT. This is correct. In fact, the last bill signed by JFK authorized the creation of the inter-state Dresden School District: http://www.sau70.o...

Re: Open Academic Tournament at Hanover - 2/18/12 @ HHS

We do not have an exact registration deadline. It would be preferable to know before Friday the 17th, though, whether you will be coming. Also, there is a very real possibility of us moving the start time of the tournament forward by 45 minutes or an hour to accommodate teams, like SB, whose drives ...

Open Academic Tournament at Hanover - 2/18/12 @ HHS

Greetings, Hanover High School's quiz bowl club invites your school to participate in the Open Academic Tournament at Hanover, or OATH, to be held on Saturday, February 18th. OATH will feature eight to ten rounds of quality quiz bowl competition, played on a question set written by members of the Un...

Re: New England Discussion and Date Claims 2011-12

The Hanover High School quiz bowl club is trying to organize an easy-regular difficulty tournament for Vermont and New Hampshire teams, and anyone else who would like to come, to be held sometime in the next few months. At this point, the most likely date for the tournament is February 18th. We are ...

Big thanks Mr. Commo for running PHAT and all of our NAQT tournaments. I think the tournament went spectacularly, especially given the huge size of the tournament and lack of staff. I second this. We sincerely appreciate all the hard work you put in to organizing and running this huge tournament. I...

Re: PHAT V (12/2/11 at South Burlington, VT HS)

Glad to hear it, Gabe. The tournament wouldn't be the same without you guys. Just so you are forewarned, however, with the field as large as it is, it's questionable how many more teams I'm going to be able accept off the current waitlist. Thus, if Hanover is hoping to enter more than two teams, it...

One idea that we (by "we" I mean the club and myself, since as an alumni, I'm an adviser to their tournaments) are pondering is running a "trash" tournament after NH and VT state competitions are done with as a "wind-down" kind of tournament to the year, where coaches/...

Vermont holds its annual coaches meeting immediately before the start of the Sue Pasco Opening Tournament at Essex HS, which is typically held on a Saturday in late September.

Out of curiosity, are you planning to post stats from the VT/NH History Bowl and Bee at some point in time?

In total, six teams participated, including four from Hanover, one from Phillips Exeter, and one from John Stark. Hanover A finished in first place with a record of 5-0, w...

Re: New England Quiz Bowl

I'm a junior at Hanover High, in New Hampshire, and the tradition of academic competition here is actually quite rich and runs pretty far back. Granite State Challenge, a quiz show produced annually by NHPTV, is now in its 28th season, and the New Hampshire Quiz Bowl League is in its 15th. Unfortuna...
