Energy Costs and Quizbowl
Gas is $4+ a gallon. School systems everywhere are cutting back on frivolous funding. Costs to heat/cool school buildings are rising with some school districts considering cutting a day off the school schedule. Things don't look like they're going to improve anytime soon. So, what's quizbowl going t...

Re: Announcement: UGA Fall Tournament 9/20
Nothing confirmed yet, but it's looking like it might be Oct. 25th instead. Working within the confines of the UGA football schedule, we were originally concerned about some other conflicts on that date but those didn't turn out so unless there's another conflict (let us know if there is) Oct 25th o...

Re: buzzer hesitancy/reluctance/cowardice(?)
I think there are three separate, though related times when buzzer hesitancy issues come up. The first, which seems to be the dominant topic of this thread, involves new players. Re: Starting a College Team
Definitely take a look at what your school's policies for student organizations are. There's a decent bit of paperwork to go through and sometimes you have to have a certain number of people interested in order to register it. Finances: One of the things you'll need to figure out early on is the fin...

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!
The big difference between CBI and ACF is that if you want to do reasonably well at ACF you need to prepare at least somewhat- CBI on the other hand allowed random reasonably intelligent people to sit down and feel really smart. Since the ACF canon isn't that big, it's not too hard to improve at it,...

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!
Well what does the ACUI want? Solid academic competition? Pleasing as many universities as possible? Or just resolving this mess quickly? I'd be very curious to know what their motivation was behind sponsoring academic bowl stuff was in the first place and to what extent they supported CBI financial...

Re: Georgia 2008-2009
Brookwood/Chatt/Walton, take your pick. Their top-3 dominance in state will likely continue, but the teams with the best shot at breaking the triumvirate are probably Alpharetta and Centennial, with Norcross and Central Gwinnett as dark horses depending on who they have coming up. And what about the...
