Re: HSAPQ National All Star Academic Tournament in 2010

I still don't get this tournament. How do we know that there won't be favoritism when determining an all star team? Like for example, how do we know that the team represented won't be all from the same school itself, and how do we know that we are choosing the best players to represent each state? ...

Re: Next Year

Given the rather broad topic title, I'd say we should be considering something else: which team do you think will win the HSAPQ All-Star competition? Virginia has Maggie Walker and whoever TJ comes up with. DC has Matt Jackson, other GDS players, maybe Aidan and me. MD has Isaac, Douglas, Kuo-Kai, w...

Re: CaTO/TaCO at VCU August 9

I'm going to play this, but I'm looking for teammates. I'm very interested in playing this, and likely not with my team. Hey, who's interested in a probably very pathetic high school team? I'm not sure, but I'd kinda like to play this too. Actually Aidan, Trey and i (tentatively) are thinking of pl...

Re: Next Year

Maybe this won't matter next year, per se, but TJ could get better than they ever were within the next 4+ years. Longfellow MS, which feeds select kids into TJ, has been sending a quizbowl team to legitimate tournaments (and :chip: ) around the area. Depending on how they're being coached (and from ...

Re: Junior NAC 2009 Results

Longfellow MS of Falls Church, Virginia wins the 2009 Junior :chip: apalooza. Given their solid performances in the KMO's, it's probably safe to say Longfellow is a legitimate national champion. So congratulations to Coach Huang and his crew. YAY LONGFELLOW!!! Sucks you had to go through th...

Re: Gonzaga/St. Anselm's Tournament (2/6/10) at Gonzaga (DC)

An addendum: Now that PACE has abandoned its old format, it is at the least uncertain that HSAPQ will continue making NSC-style packets. Right now, we're waiting for HSAPQ to address this.

EDIT: Clarity.

Re: NAC schedule info/tournament thread

At some point, pure knowledge is not enough to get you anywhere. It is how you APPLY the knowledge. Herein lies the problem. Is this statement true? Absolutely. Will quizbowl knowledge alone bring you a successful career, a loving family, or whatever else you're seeking in life? Obviously not. But ...

Re: April 29: Pre-Nationals Goldfish Championship

I was a little disappointed in our Goldfish performance, myself, but it certainly would have helped if we had had either of our math-capable players present for that round. Those two mathcomps didn't help us at all. Plus, I'm actually willing to give my kids karma points for not knowing who Ryan Go...

Re: NSC 09 question discussion guidelines

I remember a bonus on Egyptian goddesses, several Celtic myth answers, a couple Chinese things (Eight Immortals for sure), a Norse bonus including Tyr, a TU on Marduk, and an Aztec bonus including Quetzalcoatl and Tlaloc and someone else. But still, unless I've forgotten a lot of answers, that isn'...

Re: NSC 09 question discussion guidelines

While I realize that most people won't care too much about this, I will commend whoever wrote the trash questions. "Gunblade" is certainly not an answer I've heard before (thank you, trolling Gamefaqs). This may be just me, but it seemed like a few lit questions weren't giving titles as th...

Re: HSAPQ: Fall Tournaments Sets Available

Maybe it's just the fact that I had to read something by him in Spanish this summer, but it seems like he comes up at every tournament my team goes to (which, again, is only personal experience). He didn't come up in the rounds used by the tournament we went to, so I was surprised until seeing the s...

Due to certain events going on at our school that day, our coach may be unable to come. In that case, would it be possible to pay for it ourselves and come unaffiliated?

Re: April 29: Pre-Nationals Goldfish Championship

Two questions: 1. When you say "or about," does that mean that we can don't have to do it exactly that day? Our practices are normally on Thursdays; we can change it to Wednesday easily, but if we don't need to, we'd like to know. 2. How will this data deal with buzzer battles (i.e., two t...
