Re: From Tony Taylorism to Pre-Lew Fordism: Baseball in the Second Half of the 20th Century
Okay, after a VERY long delay, I'm into the last few innings of completing this set. I see there's no big event on Sunday after CO--would this work as a later day event there? Or should I just have this run as a Side Event Open thing?

Re: What's the purpose of an advantaged final?
Well, the *purpose* of an advantaged final is to correctly ascertain the best team. However, in most quizbowl contexts, if a team "clears" the field (2 games or more), there is no need for an advantaged final, so while I'm not 100% sure what happened in your tournament, this seems like a t...

Another very interesting post. I 100% agree that we should be confident and approach quizbowl as a fun thing that we're passionate about (I find there is too often a strain of anti-quizbowl quizbowlism that intentionally or not depicts quizbowl as this boring, socially horrible thing). I think advisors are great, but it is probably somewhat difficult to find a dedicated advisor who really has a passion for quizbowl. It could be a huge timesink for a lot of faculty members, I suppose, although there is a wide range in how much participation a faculty member/advisor demonstrates.

The actual audio part is really good--even the issues where the voice doesn't pronounce things right kind of simulates having a poor reader, which can be useful. I agree with Young Fennimore that having like a "press space to buzz" feature would be good (even more so than qbreader, you're ...

Moderators should just be consistent. I find doing the fingers thing to be the most consistent, but as Mike said, occasionally you're drinking a water or pausing to do something else. That's fine. Just find a consistent way to count and be clear about that to teams.

I think the issue for me is kind of what Emmett is getting at. Kendrick Lamar writes far better "poetry" than a lot of poets that come up in quizbowl, including that hack Edna St. Vincent Millay. But I would guess 90% of people experience this poetry by just listening to "popular"...
