Re: All videos of Quiz Bowl

It's Academic does a decent job of making itself look like it's awesome on TV, but the tapings are much smaller affairs than you would think and a lot of the tech and stuff is outdated. They still pull off a good-looking show, but actually being on it sort of shatters the illusion. Also, yeah, the ...

Re: ACF Nationals 2011 thanks and discussion

I appreciate the humor, but I will point out that the measurement of the neutron EDM is literally one of the most fundamental results in all of physics. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a reference to other neutron EDM questions that have been written in the past, but if there are any, I am n...

Re: ACF Nationals 2011 thanks and discussion

I'm having trouble expressing my thoughts about this tournament in a generative way. First of all, the editors produced a herculean amount of questions. There was a clear and welcomed attempt to avoid trendy crap, and that was nice. Interesting terrain was explored--in particular, a lot of good fil...

Re: Difficulty

Now, did all of these play out okay? Eh, maybe not. Holy water especially didn't (I thought the rest of them seemed okay and while I didn't buzz on it, the Anthony Quinn clue in Muhammad was absolute gold and justified hundreds of dollars for the price of admission). But at this sort of tournament,...

Re: Literature (or at least my part of it)

I'll leave it up to the other people who wrote lit questions (Sam and Marshall) to piggyback off this post if they wish to do so. I wrote the English language literature not on Connie's list. The answer matrix is mostly accurate for literature, so people can look there if you need reminding of what...

Re: Physics/Astro (Nolan's Questions)

I don't think I wrote enough of the physics to warrant a different thread, so I will piggyback on Nolan's. Tossups: quantum entanglement Lagrangian Bonuses: Schrodinger's equation/WKB method/Airy's function resistivity/Drude model/mean free path Pascal's law/shear force/viscosity solenoidal field/ma...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: The Sack of Antwerp (Chicago 2/19/2011)

The tournament was much harder than advertised. It seems a lot of teams intuited this would be the case, but we should have said so explicitly, especially when there was a school new to the circuit. I'm curious to hear what people thought about the English-language literature, of which I wrote about...

Hey, so the "Winkler et al." team now consists solely of myself, Nolan Winkler, and Dan Donohue due to cancellations and schedule fuck-ups. So, if there are any free agents or if any teams have extra players that might want to team up, you can e-mail one of us at MoWinkla (at) Gmail (dot)...

The "literature written in English" category wouldn't exclude American or British. Some rounds may have more than 1/1 of those.

Please note the lit distribution has changed.
Also, if you are a team whose plans have changed with the addition of a new mirror, make sure to say so here or in an email.

Just to double check: is Chicago signed up to bring three teams, or four? The numbers are different in each post, but four is the number we would like to bring.

Is there an Official List of Registered Teams?
Sunday there is a team of Bruce Arthur, Douglas Graebner, Richard Mason, and me. Kevin Koai will be playing on the team David Seal mentioned above.

Bruce, I think I sent an email about Sunday. I also am free for Saturday. Also, I will probably not be able to get myself there both days. If anyone is driving from or through Charlottesville and wouldn't mind taking me, I can pay for gas or lunch or something. EDIT: Changed "is" to "...
