When did NAQT packets get so short? This was the first SCT I have played since 2001 (and here I date myself), when I recall packets having 28 tossups. If my notes and memory are to be trusted, the D1 packets I played this weekend had 26 tossups each, while the D2 packets I read had only 24 each. Ye...

At a high school tournament, after five rounds of preliminaries there was a close call for the #1 playoff seed and the #2 playoff seed. The coach of the #2 team then said he wanted to protest a math bonus from round 3 (which they won by almost 200 points). Granted the question was painfully wrong, b...

WUSTL Coming off of a Top 4 finish at Division II Nationals last year, they are even better this year. Andrew Brantley is extremely good; couple his natural talent with his familiarity with NAQT (he was a member of St. John's HSNCT championship team a few years back), and that makes for a fast and ...

As noted above, pinyan at gmail dot com. If I remember correctly, that game was in the other building, and the first time stats were sent, your full game, 7 tossups was left off. I noticed that was odd, and saw it the second time through, but forgot to edit the file. Your total would thus be 5 games...

Dunbar cannot be stopped. Except by Dunbar. Unfortunately, the playoff scoresheets got thrown away, so the scores are from memory. If anyone can send me their playoff scores at pinyan at gmail dot com, I can incorporate them in the website when it goes up in a few days. Quarterfinals (all 8 of these...

Apparently he was upset about finishing 7th in scoring (which I feel is a pretty strong finish) and finishing first in negs. When he was called for these awards, he instead sat in the corner, shaking his head glumly and sulking. I think it's extremely unfair of you to allege that Mike's disdain for...

This count was simply part of a friendly wager between UIUC members concerning the large TRASH answer-set. I'm sure that could've been done with less disdain, and silently via tally marks. A simple factual obervation from my personal experience: ACF Fall Chicago (11/12/05)- 14 Teams TRASH Regionals...

TRASH Midwest results
First off, I'd like to thank all the teams who came out to St. Louis this weekend for another Midwest Extravaganza of Academics and TRASH. Sunday was the Midwest TRASH Regional, with six teams, two from Rolla, an Illinois team, License to IL, Depauw, and a house team. After a double round-robin, Lic...

GIT XI results
First off, I'd like to thank all the teams who came out to St. Louis this weekend for another Midwest Extravaganza of Academics and TRASH. Saturday was the Gateway Invitational Tournament 11. Sixteen teams, lots of fun, and Illinois A ruled the day, going a combined 11-0 and finishing two games clea...

I must say I disagree with Leo and agree with Matt. Especially if the preliminary brackets are not seeded or are seeded poorly, I think that teams in a playoff bracket should be ranked on the same basis. In other words, using the SKIT example (I'm glad they're still using round-robin playoffs and co...

There's a great deal I'm willing to tolerate for free airfare to far-flung locales. Whether I bother with CBI next year depends on the nationals host... According to CBI's website, next year's nationals are at the University of Hartford, and they're looking to put 2007 somewhere in the middle of th...

Washington Monument for Gateway Arch I think I made that mistake on a bonus part, because it wanted the tallest something-or-other, and I didn't think the Arch fell under that heading. Going to college in St. Louis, I was shamed. Back in HS, a teammate of mine tried to say Fort Marlboro instead of ...

How disapointing. That post wasn't nearly as pathetic as some of the other ones reposted or alluded to here. Yeah, if the thing got all built up before you saw it, it would look pretty bland, kind of like that Buster the bunny meeting the lesbians thing. In this case, it requires knowing that (a) J...

Andy Goss was to that region every bit an infantile individual as Jason Mueller has been to the MidWest recently (as Mr. Mueller's GROSSLY unsportsmanlike conduct upon losing this year at RCT showed) and none are worthy of defense. At least you didn't find out about what was going on that day by ch...

The problem a lot of sports fans have with the BCS (besides the fact that the formula seemingly changes at random from year to year) is that it only takes two teams. The equivalent would be NAQT saying that only Michigan, Maryland, Berkeley and Florida could play for the D-1 championship last year. ...

There seems to be an incongruity between NAQT's stance that a team from a lower playoff bracket won't be chosen over a t...

3. As for excessive protests, you could just have a rule that a protest will not be adjudicated unless it affected who wins the match... period. That could be an even bigger problem if you use total points to advance. If two teams are tied for the last playoff spot, Team A has 1380 points, and Team...

I'd go with undergrad, first two years of intercollegiate competition, but that if you've never touched a buzzer before and are a grad student, you get one chance. Hell, I think the best option here might just be YOU HAVE ONE YEAR, PERIOD. But then I wouldn't have a chance, as WU couldn't gather the...

As for the competitiveness of the Southeast Div. II, I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. Only one team from there went to the ICT last year, and they finished in the bottom half of a field littered with waitlists and standbys. I have to say I really hope there isn't something in this mystical...
