That said, I think we as a community tend to have a very backwards attitude towards training new moderators. We treat it as a sort of a praiseworthy inborn skill, rather than a reasonable expectation, when we find a moderator who gets through rounds in 25-30 minutes with the speed and clarity that ...

Re: Summer Practices at Chicago

My taxi services and I are returning on Wednesday (assuming same time/place). I'm happy to drive people home afterwards; if you also want a ride there beforehand, let me know in the next 48 hours.

Re: Pre-tournament Playlists

No one has said Eminem's "Lose Yourself" yet, and sometimes when you're holding a buzzer all day you can find your palms get sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy...

Re: Summer Practices at Chicago

I know everyone's brains are probably in a spaghetti-like state after CO, but do you know when practices will be next week? My car situation is less than ideal, so the more notice the better (and/or having a regular schedule).

Re: Odd Ways of Learning Things

One of my approximately three buzzes at 2013 ICT was first-cluing "polio" on a clue about a certain disease in India. About a year prior I was at a travel clinic getting my shots to go to India (among other places), and the waiting room had readings about India that included nearly the exa...

Re: Summer Practices at Chicago

If they continue into August I'd be interested. I have to work Thursday nights right now to run study sessions for the class I'm TAing, but if the practices outlast the class I'd be down for a couple.

Re: What I think is wrong with the new ACF Fall format

I know it's TBD, but I'm very curious to hear more about how the "editors will tell you what distribution your submissions should adhere to" will work. I gather that there just be a few stock half-distributions that people are assigned, presumably at random?

Re: General discussion

Just by talking to some members of my team, they felt the lit was both heavy on authors as opposed to works. They also felt like there were a ton of questions, especially in lit, to the tune of "from this country" and "written in this language" (although I also feel like those qu...

Can you post the clarinet question? No qualms with it, just a clarinet major interested in seeing how the rest of it.
