Re: 2014 ONQBA Provincial Championship (3/22/2014)
I would like to thank Ben Smith for running a great tournament that was in line with the excellence we have come to expect from the ONQBA. I like to also thank all the great moderators and staffers that I got to work with, and to all the teams both near and far, for coming to the tournament. This i...

To my understanding, we have at least 8 rooms available on Monday - the staff suites. This means I'm going to cap the field at 14 teams for now (7 rooms + 1 control room) until I know for sure that more rooms are available. I'm going to set a target time of having this tournament done by 2PM on Mem...

Re: A pyramidal Canadian championship?
Why are fees so much lower? I would guess that initially, a lower fee was the only way to attract a lot of teams that were used to having their school pay their Reach entry fees for regional competitions in advance. It seems to have stuck. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but after all these years of them...

Re: A pyramidal Canadian championship?
Matt Jackson and Ben Smith make good points. The worst thing that could happen is that this is launched prematurely and it doesn't get repeated in the future, so I really don't see this happening for at least 2-3 years. The circuit has plenty of room to grow and that growth must happen before a Cana...

Re: Boycotting Bad Quizbowl?
Ted, I believe your concern is being raised because you spent most of the season thinking Colonel By didn’t pay the entry fee, only to discover recently that the administrators did. If the money was spent, it’s not being (easily) refunded, so you may as well field a team. Take a pass on provincials...

Re: Balancing Teams
If you balance teams, you have a higher chance of qualifying more than one team for nationals. Of course this also reduces the chance of qualifying a single team for nationals, but if that's the case, you probably shouldn't be splitting your best players to try and qualify more teams.
