Re: The Name "Quiz Bowl" and its Effects
In my mind, I always thought of "quizbowl" as the name of the game, and the name of the team was something like Scholastic Team or Academic Team(which is what we called it at my high school). To me this was akin to being on Crew Team where your sport was "rowing." [*] We don't ha...

Andrew sent me this packet a week or so ago and I played it with a buddy. As someone who just completed their first year of law school, I thought it was super-enjoyable. I can see though how anybody not just out of their first year or in law school at all, wouldn't really find this very entertaining...

So my buddy Mark Hahnenberg and I thought that since its a tech-hungry 2011, and we have a deep love for computer science (and the environment?), we would look into making an app to keep score for quizbowl games! (by "we" I mean he did all the actual work and I just sat around and thought ...

Just to be clear, when we say things are non-open, does that bar the possibility of combining some B-teamers and C-teamers from two different schools so as to avoid a schedule with byes ("scab teams") or to allow them an opportunity to play on a team that isn't just two people or a number ...

I agree strongly with Matt's last post. I think quizbowl already has a lot of the characteristics of a Good Ol' Boys Club and mandating more regular just-college tournaments and less of anything else, would help push quizbowl away from that paradigm and closer to an interscholastic competition. Whic...

I may be way off base here, but I thought the major concern this past season was the complete nonexistence of regular college tournaments in the fall. If we have 18 teams the best I can come up with is 3x6 rebracketed WITH repeats (to maximize games). This would mean all teams play all five other teams in their third of the final standings at least once (with one repeat) and two of the teams from each of the other two PM brackets. You could do 2 ...
