TJIAT 2020 (CANCELLED)

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to announce the annual Thomas Jefferson Invitational Academic Tournament (TJIAT) on April 18th, 2019. TJIAT will be run on PACE NSC rules, including 20 point powers, no negs, and bouncebacks. In the spirit of past TJIAT’s, we hope to attract strong out-of-region teams to truly make this a Pre-Nats tournament.

QUESTION SET:
The tournament will be played on STASH, a house-written, HS NATS level difficulty set written by the TJ Quizbowl club. More details can be found here:

LOGISTICS:
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:00 AM. Breakfast will be provided, and pizza will be available for order in the morning. The tournament will be held at TJHSST (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312).

TJIAT's current field cap is 24, but this may be increased depending on room and staffer availability. Teams will be limited to at most 6 people, so schools planning to bring more than 6 students should register another team. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams may have fewer than 4 people.

FEES:
Registration fee per team: $100
Pizza will be $12 a pie

DISCOUNTS:
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set, defined as having at least 8 working buzzers
-$10 for moderators with reading experience for pyramidal quizbowl tournaments
-$10 for every 75 miles travelled one way (determined by shortest path on Google Maps)

Minimum registration fee:
$70 per team

Registration fees can be paid through cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. While payment the day of the tournament is preferable, mailing it in advance will work as well. Anything sent via mail should be addressed to TJHSST Quizbowl c/o John Laffey at 6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA, 22312.
