OSRT [July 31]

Post by Amazingguysofguys »

I'm excited to announce the Online Summer Regular Tournament (OSRT) that will take place on Saturday, July 31st, 2021. The tournament will be run by me, Aatreyo Bhattacharyya (Mira Loma High School), and Umme Hani Bootwala (Clarke High School). It will begin at 10 AM Eastern Time to best accommodate all time zones.

The tournament will be run on the AQBL R1 set which is of High School regular difficulty. More details about the questions can be found here.

This tournament will consist of two divisions: MS Division and a HS Division. The field cap for the MS Division is 8 teams and for the HS division is 18 teams. This may change depending on staffer availability. This is a trio tournament, meaning each team must have 3 players. Teams do NOT have to be closed and can be made up of players from different schools. Rising 9th graders/freshmen can play in either the HS division or the MS division.

There are no geographic restrictions for this tournament.

Game Format

Each game will be played on a packet of 20 tossups only. Games will not be timed and standard scoring rules will be used. This tournament will follow ACF rules.

Statistics

We will be using TJ sheets which will allow for live statistics and detailed category stats.

A Note on Cheating

Given the online nature of quiz bowl this year, cheating has become much more common. To prevent this, we are requiring that ALL players must use video and show one hand in the frame at all times. Players are also encouraged to remain unmuted during tossups as long as there is no significant background noise. The tournament directors reserve the right to remove any player on the grounds of suspicion at any time.

Fees

The entry fee for this tournament is $60 per team. There are no discounts available. Payment must be made by Venmo or Paypal, and more details will be sent at a later date.

Staff

We are looking for moderators and scorekeepers who want to staff this tournament. All staffers not affiliated with attending teams will be paid $25. To register to staff, please fill out this form. Staff are required to attend a short staff meeting before the tournament.

Registration

Sign up using this sheet. You will receive further information, closer to the tournament date.

Our team contains 4 members, since only 3 people are allowed in a team, can we have 1 person sub out and do round robin substitutions?

Thanks in advance,

The substitution policy will be the same as other tournaments, so this is fine.
