Cancelled-- Central OLEFIN mirror

Post by Marble-faced Bristle Tyrant » Thu May 12, 2011 2:45 pm

Central High School in Macon, Georgia is hosting a high school tournament on November 5, 2011. High school teams of any level may compete. We will be using OLEFIN (formerly known as GREYSON), a set written by the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology team in Alexandria, Virginia. For an idea of what the set may be like, I'd recommend checking out TJ's previous sets NAREN and MOHIT at the high school packet archive. All of the other sets posted there also make excellent practice material.

If you are interested in attending, please either post here or email me, Farrah Bilimoria, at rienzi0711 at gmail dot com with number of teams, buzzers, staffers, emergency contact numbers (probably should be emailed instead of posted), and any other information you think important. I would prefer staffers with experience in reading and scorekeeping, even if that experience just comes from team practice sessions. Also-- players, coaches, and staffers-- please familiarize yourself with the rules found here, most pertinently section D onward.

Fees and discounts
$50 team base fee

-$5 per buzzer set (maximum of two for the discount, though you are welcome to bring more)
-$10 per staffer
-$10 per 200 miles traveled (based on the shortest route given by Google Maps, applies to each team a school brings)
-$10 per extra team

Address and Directions
2155 Napier Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204

I can't find any directions page on the school site, so you may want to refer to Google Maps yourself for a better route.

From the north:
1. Get on I-75 S
2. Take exit 164 for GA-19/Hardeman Ave toward US-41/Forsyth St/Downtown
3. Turn right onto GA-19 N/Hardeman Ave. Continue to follow.
4. Turn left onto Holt Ave
5. Take the third right onto Napier Ave. Central is on the right.

From the south:
1. Get on I-75 N
2. Take exit 160 for US-41/GA-247/Pio Nono Ave
3. Turn left onto GA-247 N/US-41 N/Pio Nono Ave
4. Turn right onto Napier Ave. Central is on the left.

From the west:
1. Get on GA-22 E/US-80 E. Continue to follow
2. Turn left onto Pio Nono Ave
3. Turn right onto Napier Ave. Central is on the left.

From the east:
1. Get on I-16 W.
2. Take Exit 1 on the left and merge onto I-75 S.
3. Take Exit 164 for GA-19/Hardeman Ave toward US-41/Forsyth St/Downtown

5. Turn left onto Holt Ave

Unless the November SAT is held at Central, which would definitely count toward my hilarious scheduling mishap tally, this tournament is going to be on November 5.

I won't be certain until the school year starts, but I'm thinking of mirroring TJ's GREYSON for this.

Just in case there is any confusion, GREYSON is the same set that TJ is running as OLEFIN. In other words, OLEFIN and GREYSON are not two different sets, but rather the same set.

Think we should call it an OLEFIN mirror instead?

Yeah, that's probably a good idea, especially if you note that OLEFIN is the same set as the cancelled GREYSON set from last year.

Farrah,

Please add Chattahoochee to your "very interested" list as we would like to come down to support your program and hear another good set of questions. Thanks!

If certain communication issues between me and the team don't rectify themselves soon, I will have to cancel this. It's about a month and a half until the date, and I haven't even received confirmation that we can host on November 5, among other things I need to know before shooting emails to everyone.

Due to restrictions on when Central clubs can meet and my own school schedule, I can't attend their practices this semester. Last semester I was able to arrange the nats warmup without actually being at GT only through constant communication and cooperation with Gregory and Adam, and that just isn't happening here.

I am probably going to cancel this if I don't get the necessary info by next week, maybe try again next semester if I can secure more direct interaction with the club.
