Fall Novice Mirror at Virginia Tech (October 15, 2011)
Virginia Tech will be hosting a mirror of the 2011 Fall Novice Tournament at our campus in Blacksburg, Virginia on October 15, 2011. A copy of last year's Fall Novice Tournament can be found here.
LOCATION and REGISTRATION
The tournament will take place entirely within McBryde Hall. McBryde Hall is located at adjacent to the Drillfield in the central campus area. Campus maps can be found here. The buildings on campus were recently assigned physical addresses and most mapping software has not been updated to reflect this change yet, but you may enter "225 Stanger Street, Blacksburg, VA" in your software of choice for assistance in finding directions.
Parking restrictions are not enforced on the weekends unless posted, and ample parking is available both around the Drillfield, along the Alumni Mall, and in the lots and parking deck near Prices Fork Road.
Registration will begin at 8:30, and we expect the opening meeting to begin at 9:00 with gameplay immediately following.
Base fee: $50
Each additional team beyond the first: -$10
Working buzzer set: -$5
Experienced volunteer game official: -$5
Travel (in excess of 200 miles one-way as determined by the TD): -$10
To register, please contact Dan Goff via email at (dbgoff at VT dot EDU) with the coach's contact information, including a phone number where the coach can be reached on the day of the tournament, the number of teams, and any expected discounts.
ELIGIBILITY
This is a novice tournament, and as such, eligibility is limited to players to newer or inexperienced players. Any player that scored either at least 20 points per 20 tossups heard at the 2011 NAQT HSNCT or 20 points per game at the 2011 PACE NSC is not eligible to play. All other players are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Teams are limited to six players, four of which may play at any one team. If a school wishes to bring more than six players, they must register an additional team.
FORMAT
The field is initially capped at 16 teams, but may be expanded if resources allow. Teams in excess of the cap will be placed on a waitlist and allowed into the field in order.
The exact tournament schedule will be determined by field size, but teams should expect to play between 8-10 rounds.
Field:
Honaker 2
Blacksburg 3
Cave Spring 3
Eastern Montgomery
Christiansburg 2
William Campbell 3
Carlisle
Heritage
North Cross

Re: Fall Novice Mirror at Virginia Tech
Dan,
We're definitely planning on coming. I don't know numbers yet, as we've just gotten started with practice. Is there a limit to the number of teams a school can bring? We've had very healthy numbers in practice, and this tournament is so close to home, that we should be able to bring a lot of teams.

Re: Fall Novice Mirror at Virginia Tech
We haven't talked about capping the field for specific numbers of teams from a school.
If you're planning on bringing a lot, it would certainly help if you're able to bring a couple of folks to help us staff the tournament, so we can make sure that we can accommodate as many schools as possible.

We're just over a week away from the tournament and very close to the field cap. I would love to fill the last spots!

We've hit our field cap of 16, but I could use some extra help staffing. If there's anyone who's willing to give up time on Saturday in exchange for a free lunch, let me know.

Thanks to everyone for playing our tournament! Full stats can be found here. Congrats to Cave Spring A for going 9-0 and clearing the field, and to Christiansburg B for coming back from a 210-point halftime defect against Blacksburg A to claim second place. Let me know if there are any issues with the stats, and we hope to see you at the next VT tournament!
