Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to announce the annual Thomas Jefferson Invitational Academic Tournament (TJIAT) on May 4th, 2019. The tournament will be held using PACE NSC rules, including 20 point powers, 0 point negs, and bouncebacks.

QUESTION SET:
The tournament will mirroring Spartan Housewrite, a house-written, regular difficulty college set. More details can be found here:

TJIAT's current field cap is 14 but this may be increased depending on staffing availability. Once the field is full, we will start a waitlist of interested teams. Please sign up by 4/30/2019. Teams will be limited to at most 6 people so schools planning to bring more than 6 students must register another team. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams may have fewer than 4 people.

LOGISTICS:
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:15 AM. Basic breakfast foods will be provided, and pizza will be available for order in the morning. The tournament will be held at TJHSST (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312). Our tournament is set for May 4th, barring any natural disasters.

FEES:
Registration fee per team: $100

DISCOUNTS:
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set, defined as having at least 8 working buzzers
-$10 for moderators with reading experience for pyramidal quizbowl tournaments
-$10 for every 150 miles travelled one way (determined by shortest path on Google Maps)

Minimum registration fees:
$65 per team

Registration fees can be paid through cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. While payment the day of the tournament is preferable, mailing it in advance will work as well. Anything sent via mail should be addressed to TJHSST Quizbowl c/o John Laffey at 6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA, 22312.
