QANTA League 1 (Online, April 22-26)

Post by Dominator »

(cross-posted from the Collegiate Announcements & Results section)

Qblitz and QANTA are excited to announce the next installment in their tournament partnership, QANTA League 1, which will take place April 22-26, 2019.

THE TOURNAMENT

QANTA League 1 is an open tournament (players in college, post-college, and pre-college are welcome) written at high school nationals difficulty. It is an individual, not team-based, competition, and the questions will be tossups only.

The event will take place over 5 rounds of 20 tossups, with 1 round per day. Each day, players will be placed in a pool, and the top performers in each pool will move up a step on the ladder. The highest climber at the end of the week is the winner.

Due to support from the QANTA project, this event is free. To sign up, login to your account at Qblitz and visit the Register tab.

THE QANTA PROJECT

QANTA is a computer quizbowl-answering project developed by the team of Dr. Jordan Boyd-Graber of the University of Maryland. QANTA likes to occasionally test its mettle against human players.

This June, QANTA will be facing off against top players during an exhibition at PACE NSC. To determine the team representing humanity in the exhibition, the QANTA Project will use results from the QANTA League 1 event to build a pool of candidates. The selection of the team from that pool of candidates will be done in person at NSC and is at the sole discretion of the QANTA Project. If you'd like to face off against QANTA at NSC, you must qualify by playing QANTA League 1!

We hope to see you there!

The tournament field current includes almost 100 players from 24 states and 6 countries. There's still plenty of room for more players, though! If you'd like to join this international event, please go to qblitz.online to sign up.
