Sagacity XV (11/16/19) [IS-189A]

Pitt Quiz Bowl is happy to announce our 15th annual Sagacity tournament, to be held at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Teams can register by filling out the following form: https://forms.gle/wMS5DYy3PsHnEKrM7. The current field cap for this tournament is 30 teams.

Nationals Qualification

Sagacity XV has been designated as an NSC Gold Qualifier. This qualifies teams in the top 20% percent of the field to the 2020 PACE NSC on June 6-7 2020 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare outside of Chicago, IL

Questions and Format:

We will be using NAQT's IS-189A for this tournament, any team who is played this packet is ineligible for Sagacity XV. We will be using standard, timed NAQT rules which can be found in detail at https://www.naqt.com/rules/

Fees and Discounts:

Base Fee:
  • +$70 for the first team registered
    +$60 for the second team registered
    +$50 for the third team registered
Buzzer Discount: -$10 to your school's total fee for each fully functional system. A fully functional buzzer system is defined as follows:
  • A buzzer system that clearly indicates which player has buzzed. The control unit and at least 8 activators work, including lights on either or both of the 8 activators and control unit.
Staff Discount: -$10 to your school's total fee. This can be a coach, parent, student, or other person who is not playing. Volunteer staffers must stay through all games (excluding finals).

Travel Discount: -$10 to your school's total fee for every 150 miles traveled one-way from your school's address to the Cathedral of Learning, according to Google Maps.

New Team discount: -$30 for the first team from a school that has not played at a pyramidal weekend quizbowl tournament (IU competitions do not count against this) since September 1st, 2015

Payment:
All teams must pay on the morning of the tournament. We can accept cash, personal checks, or checks from school, school district, or quizbowl club funds. We have no ability to process purchase orders or credit cards, but we will accept Venmo. Bringing forms of payment outside of the aforementioned methods will be considered nonpayment.

All checks should be made out to "Pitt Quiz Bowl"

Location & Parking:
The address of the Cathedral of Learning is 4200 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. We recommend parking in the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial parking lot which is located at 4101 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. To enter the Cathedral, walk down Bigelow Boulevard and cross at the permanent crosswalk. Please enter through the ground floor of the Cathedral.

UPDATE

This tournament is now planning on using an IS-189A set instead of the originally planned IS-188. Please let me know if this brings up any issues

Congratulations to State College A for coming in first place on Saturday, with State College B coming in second and Allderice A in third. Full stats can be found here. Thanks to all the teams that came out!
