Hello!

Ridgewood High School is proud to present the first ever Mid-Atlantic Regional Offensive Of kNowledge (MAROON Bowl), a quiz bowl tournament to be hosted on November 23rd, 2019. We will be mirroring WAIT (Wayzata Academic Invitational Tournament) for our set. You can find out more about the packet here: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=22850

Teams: We will have a base field cap of 24 teams, but we’d be willing to move the cap to a maximum of 36 Teams if there is sufficient interest and if we can get the staff numbers required. We will have an initial cap of four teams per school, with all additional teams being waitlisted.

Location: Our address is 627 E Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ, which is just 20 miles outside of NYC. We are located directly off of multiple major highways (17, 208, Garden State Parkway), and can be pretty easily reached from most parts of the NY Metro Area. People can park in the main parking lot on East Ridgewood Avenue.

Start Time: Registration will start at 8 AM, and will last till 8:40 AM. We hope to start matches at 9:10 AM sharp. We will provide Bagels and Water for free, as well as sell Donuts and Juices.

Costs: We will have a base fee of $75 for first team and $60 for any additional teams; we will have a $10 Buzzer Set Discount and a $5 discount for every competent moderator. The Maximum Discount for schools will be $20. 2 Person teams will receive a discounted rate of $60 per team, while solo teams will only have to pay $50. Each of these discounts can only be applied once. Payment can be done via cash on day of tournament or via check to RHS Association given on day of tournament.

Prizes: Book Prizes will be given out to the top 5 players in terms of PPG (top 10 if we exceed 20 teams) There will be Plaques given out to the Top 2 Teams overall and to the Consolation Champion.

Food: We will be selling food throughout the day to fundraise for the club, and we will sell Pizza for lunch. The rate for a plain pie of pizza will be $12, while a Sausage or Pepperoni pie will be $15. We will also sell soda along with the Pizza for lunch.

Great news! "Congratulations! PACE (the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) has designated your tournament, MAROON Bowl I, as a gold NSC qualifier. This means that the top 20% of teams in your tournament (rounded up to the nearest integer) will qualify for our national high school quizbowl championship, the PACE NSC on the weekend of June 6-7 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare outside of Chicago."

Also, as we have a complete field, all teams who register at this point will be put on the waitlist. We are willing to expand the field if we can get more experienced moderators. For any teams yet to register, we can automatically take you off the waitlist if you can bring an experienced moderator. We will be sending out an update email to teams who have registered later today. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]

We have reached our hard field cap of 27. Due to bracketing concerns, the field can only be expanded if we can get at least 3 additional staffers. All other teams will be put on a waitlist. If any team drops out, a team on the waitlist will be automatically added to the field.
