First Annual Aggie Open in Greensboro, NC

Post by ashleyking » Tue Aug 27, 2019 2:16 pm

This is to announce the First Annual Aggie Open on October 19, 2019

The STEM Early College is pleased to announce that we will host the First Annual Aggie Open on Saturday, October 19, 2019. This is a high school Quiz Bowl tournament that will take place from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m., though we may well finish earlier. The tournament is open to any high school team(s) that wish to attend, with a field cap at 11 teams.

Affiliation: The tournament will use NAQT set IS-188 and will serve as a qualifier for the NAQT national tournament with the top 15% of teams getting bids.

Format: The competition will be nine rounds; every team is guaranteed at least 6 rounds with round robin in the morning and seeded play in the afternoon. We’ll decide on the exact playoff format once we see how many teams are signed up. All rounds will be played according to NAQT procedures, with 20 pyramid-style tossups and corresponding bonuses. We will play powers and negs, but there will be no bouncebacks on bonuses.

Registration: To register, please go to https://www.naqt.com/go/register/10873

Fees: The fee per team will be $65, with a $10 discount for each fully functional buzzer system that has a control box and eight buzzers and a $5 discount for one volunteer per team. Schools may register additional teams for $35 each.

Payment may be mailed by check either prior to October 19, or paid in person with a check or cash on the day of the tournament. Please make all checks out to The STEM Early College at NC A&T.

Teams: There is no limit to the number of people on a roster, however only four players may be active at any time. There is a half-time substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day—no switching between the A and B teams, for example. Teams may also play shorthanded with fewer players.

Food: Neither breakfast nor lunch will be provided by the tournament. Further information regarding local food options will be provided along with the confirmation email sent to you after registration.

We hope to see your team at the Aggie Open!
