Westview High School is pleased to announce BONoBo (”B”estview October Novice Bonanza) I, a high school novice tournament directed by Rohan Venkateswaran and Connor Rankin.
QUESTION SET: The tournament will use SCOP10 Novice, a novice set catered towards less-experienced high school and high-achieving middle school teams.
DATE/TIME: The tournament will take place on Saturday, 19 October, 2019. Check-in will begin at 8:15 A.M., and matches will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M.
LOCATION: The tournament will take place on the campus of Westview High School, located at 13500 Camino del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129. Vehicles may park in either lot and persons may enter the campus through the front gates. Matches will take place in the classrooms in the J and L buildings. A map of the campus can be found here.
REGISTRATION: Teams must register by emailing [email protected] with the following information: (1) the school's name, (2) the number of teams, (3) the number of buzzers, (4) the number of moderators. There is no team limit until further notice. Registrations will be confirmed with a reply email. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration fee may be paid on-site with either cash or check. Please make all checks payable to Westview ASB, with Westview Quizbowl noted on the check.
We will be implementing a soft field cap of 24 teams until we are sure that we have enough staff to accommodate more. As of right now, the first two teams that a school registers will be automatically let into the field, while the remaining teams will be placed on a wait list. If there is room in the field on October 5, the waitlisted teams will be let into the field.
ELIGIBILITY:
To qualify for this tournament, all members on a high school team must meet all of these criteria:
-not won more than three (3) tournaments in a single school year at the JV or varsity level
-not scored more than 50 points per game (PPG) at any high school novice tournament
-not scored more than 30 points per game (PPG) at and high school regular difficulty tournament
Middle school teams are welcome to play, regardless of whether or not they qualify for JV.
PRICING:
Schools that did not play any tournaments in the 2018-2019 season will pay a flat $40 per team.
$80 for the first team
$70 for subsequent teams
All middle school teams will start at $70 before the discounts apply.
DISCOUNTS:
- $5 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
- $10 per experienced moderator
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per school
Minimum fee: $40 per team
TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.
We will be using official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches will be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. In addition, ACF rules will be followed regarding timing. A preliminary round robin in the morning will be followed by round robin playoffs in the afternoon based on win-loss records. Ties will be resolved on the basis of points per game (PPG) within brackets, and ties crossing different brackets will be resolved on the basis of win-loss records and points per bonus (PPB).
FOOD: A light breakfast will be provided, and eateries exist within a comfortable 5-10 minute walking distance of the campus. Food options include places such as Cotijas, Rubio’s, PizzaRev, Pick Up Stix, Luna Grill, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Fresco, etc.
INQUIRIES: Any inquiries can be resolved through emailing [email protected].
