The Miami Valley School quiz bowl team cordially invites you to Give Thanks for Matt’s Buzzers IV on November 16, 2019. This tournament will take place at The Miami Valley School: 5151 Denise Drive, Dayton, OH 45429.

We will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this event to Matt's Buzzers, an organization that provides financial aid to quiz bowl teams around the country in memory of Matt Cvijanovich. The tournament will feature a high school division and a middle school division. The high school division will be split into two competition flights: Standard and Novice. When you register, please specify which flight you prefer. As a rule of thumb, teams in the Standard division should expect to score 18 PPB or better on a standard IS set. As tournament director, I do reserve the right to ask teams to change their flight assignment if it seems necessary and appropriate for the fairness of the competition.

The Standard high school flight will play the LOGIC set, a regular-difficulty set housewritten by a national team including players from The Miami Valley School, University Lab HS (Illinois) and Adlai E. Stevenson HS (Illinois). The Novice high school flight and the middle school division will play the MVS RAMS set, a regular-difficulty MS set housewritten by The Miami Valley School.

The initial field cap for the high school division will be 20 teams: 10 Uber and 10 Standard. The initial field cap for the middle school division will be 12 teams.

Assuming a full field, all high school teams will be guaranteed at least nine games and all middle school teams will be guaranteed eight games.

Payment can be made to The Miami Valley School (put "Quiz Bowl" in the memo). Our address is 5151 Denise Dr, Dayton, OH 45429. You may also bring cash or check to the tournament site.

Registration will be from 8:00 A.M. until 8:30 A.M., followed by a brief meeting for coaches and players. We expect to begin play promptly at 9:00 A.M.

FEES:
First Team: $50
Each Additional Team: $45
BUZZER DISCOUNT: -$5 per buzzer system, no limit
READER DISCOUNT: -$10 for a competent moderator, no limit
TRAVEL DISCOUNT: There is a $10 discount for teams traveling over 100 miles one way (our zip code is 45429).
MINIMUM Fee: $35

If your program has not played a pyramidal tossup-bonus quiz bowl tournament in the last three years, your team(s) will automatically qualify for the minimum fee of $35. Please ask if you have questions regarding this discount.

If your program has received a grant from Matt's Buzzers in the past, your team(s) will automatically qualify for the minimum fee of $35.

For lunch, we will offer cheese and pepperoni pizza for $10/pie.

Congratulations to our three division champions: Beavercreek (Standard), Celina (Novice), and Miami Valley A (Middle School).

One last big "thank you" to all the coaches and other experienced readers who were on hand to staff...we were exactly on schedule all day, and that is entirely due to them keeping every room running smoothly.
