WAIT Main Site @ Wayzata High School (November 23rd, 2019)

Post by BenWeiner27 »

Wayzata High School Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce the main site tournament of the WAIT question set, which will be held on November 23rd, 2019 at Wayzata High School in Plymouth, MN.

The tournament will be run on the Wayzata Academic Invitational Tournament question set which was housewritten by a team of current Wayzata Quiz Bowl players and edited by a team consisting predominantly of Wayzata alumni. The set is aimed for regular high school difficulty akin to a NAQT Invitational Series (NAQT IS) set, which have traditionally been used at tournaments such as GINVIT and the NAQT State Championship.

We intend for this tournament to be a qualifier for the 2020 PACE National Scholastic Championship which will be held near Chicago, Illinois on June 6-7.

Rules
WAIT will be played on a ruleset similar to traditional NAQT rules with the following exceptions:
1. Rounds will consist of 20 untimed tossup-bonus cycles (each tossup in the packet will be read).
2. Players will be given 5 seconds to answer following a buzz instead of the 2 seconds allotted under NAQT rules.
3. Teams will be limited to 6 players per team.
4. The WAIT set contains no computational math of any kind.

Format
Format will depend upon the number of teams that register, however, if we have at least 12 teams register, all teams will be guaranteed at least 10 games and the format will generally consist of multiple rounds of pool play (smaller fields may result in fewer than 10 games played). Registration will begin at 8:15am and we hope to have matches underway by 9:00am. Please arrive with ample time to sign in so that we may run on schedule.

Fees
Base Entry Fee: $75 per team
Buzzer Discount: -$5 per working buzzer system
Staffer Discount: -$10 per staffer with laptop
Long Range Discount: -$10 for each 100 miles traveled one way

Minimum Fee: $50 per team

Please make checks payable to “Wayzata High School” and please put “WAIT Quizbowl Tournament” in the memo line.

Discounts will be awarded on a first come first served basis depending on the number of teams and the supply of house staffers. We will notify all teams on whether or not they will be receiving a discount they have requested at least 7 days before the tournament.

Food
We are working on making lunch available for sale on the day of the tournament at the High School, however should we be unable to do so, there are several restaurants within 10 minutes of the high school. Breakfast will not be provided, nor will it be for sale.

Registration
To register, please email wayzataquizbowl AT gmail DOT com with the number of teams you intend to bring and any discounts that you are interested in pursuing. Registration may be cancelled with a full refund up until 11:59 PM CST on Wednesday November 20th. After that point, all teams will be responsible for paying full tournament dues.

If you have any questions please reach out to us and we hope to see you in November!

WAIT Main Site happened today. Mounds View A defeated Clark High School from Las Vegas in the second game of an advantaged final 385-375. Eden Prairie A took third place and the final qualifying spot for the 2019 PACE NSC. Thanks to all the teams that attended and we hope you enjoyed the set!

Stats for the day can be found here: https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6051/stats/final/

P.S.: If you have feedback on the set, we ask that you join the private forum through the usergroups tab of your forums profile in which you will be able to discuss specific set content.
