2020 Penn State Spring Academic Bowl (2/15/2020)

Post by ashkum »

Penn State Quiz Bowl is pleased to host the 2020 Penn State Spring Academic Bowl on Saturday, February 15th, 2020. The tournament will run on the NAQT's IS-191A question set. The initial field cap will be at 18 teams, but may expand if there is interest.

Logistics
Registration will begin at 8:00 AM in Room 162 of the Willard Building, and will conclude at 8:30 AM. The opening meeting will take place in the same room at 8:45 AM. Matches will then begin at 9:00 AM. We aim to conclude the tournament no later than 4:00 PM. There will be a break in the middle for teams to get lunch. There are many excellent lunch locations within walking distance, and directions/suggestions will be given to teams the day of the tournament. Details about where to park and directions to the tournament location on campus will be emailed to teams about a week prior to the tournament.

Registration
Registration will take place on NAQT's website here. A free account with NAQT.com is needed to register for the tournament.

Teams that bring their buzzer systems or staff will be given a discount to their registration fee. Teams may have a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 players per registered team, although up to 4 players may play at one time. Schools can bring as many teams as they like, but if a school is bringing more than six players, then they must split into two teams.

Fee Structure
$75 for a school’s first registered team
$65 per subsequent team
-$10 per buzzer system a school brings
-$10 per staff member a school brings
-$20 per team for any school that has not competed in a pyramidal quizbowl tournament in the past three years

All teams must pay the day of the tournament. We prefer to accept payment during registration right before the tournament starts. The minimum fee is $40 per team. Payments can be made via cash or check. Please make checks payable to “Penn State Quiz Bowl.”

Any questions can be forwarded to me at [email protected]. We hope to see you at Penn State!

The results from yesterdays tournament are:

1. State College B
2. State College A
3. Notre Dame
4. State College D

Albert Zhang was the tournament's leading scorer with 169.5 PPG on the day. Congratulations to all teams that attended. Statistics can be viewed at this link.

Special thanks must go out to Ben Herman and Bruce McAninch for coming out to read today. Special thanks must also go to Nick Luca for computing statistics remotely from Virginia.

Thanks to all the teams for coming out and we hope to see everyone at a future Penn State tournament!
