I am pleased to announce the WAIT Online Knowledge Event (WOKE), an online mirror of the 2019-20 WAIT question set scheduled for March 28th, 2020. This tournament will be conducted over Discord.

The tournament will be run on the Wayzata Academic Invitational Tournament question set which was housewritten by a team of current Wayzata Quiz Bowl players and edited by a team consisting predominantly of Wayzata alumni. The set is aimed for regular high school difficulty akin to a NAQT Invitational Series (NAQT IS) set and more details about the set can be found here.

This tournament will be tentatively capped at 12 teams, although the field size may increase or decrease depending on interest and staff availability.

Eligibility:
WOKE will be a high school closed tournament. This tournament is closed to all high school teams and players must play with fellow players who attend the same school.

Schedule:
We are planning for the tournament to begin at 9 AM CDT (10AM EDT/7 AM PDT) and we will be using a format that keeps the total number of rounds played at around ten in order to make sure that the tournament does not drag on too long. If there is interest, we may run the leftover packets in a shootout format after completion of the main tournament.

Fees:
The registration fee for this tournament will be $60 per team.

Staff:
This tournament will be staffed primarily by Wayzata players who were involved in the production of this set and helped staff the WAIT Main Site this past fall.

Registration:
Teams can register for this tournament by using this spreadsheet.

If you have any questions please reach out to me either through a message on the forums or by emailing me at benweiner27 AT gmail DOT com.

The field has been expanded to 24 teams, which will be the hard cap of the tournament. However since many teams listed are tentative still, we strongly recommend continuing to sign up on the waitlist should the field fill up. If there are eight or more teams on the waitlist by the tournament date, we will attempt to host a second mirror in April. We will be taking measures similar to the BLAST mirror to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly.

Yes. The tournament will be 4 on 4, but if desired teams can have subs who will be permitted to sub in between rounds and at the half.

TAG Magnet won the tournament after a very impressive performance in the finals. Three teams (TAG, GDS, and Water Gas A) were all 5-2 at the end of the playoff rounds. In order to finish things in a timely manner, we seeded the teams based on afternoon ppg and had TAG play GDS (TAG won 410-335) and they then played Water Gas A for the title (winning 505-285). Complete stats for all stages of the tournament can be found here.

The day was full of extremely impressive statlines, incredible comebacks, and overall some really, really good quizbowl. If you have feedback on the set as a whole or specific questions, I encourage you to join the discussion forum (you can apply under the usergroups tab of your profile). Thanks to all the teams who came out today and to all of the staff who made this day possible.
